CHRIS ROCK NOT CONCERNED WITH MARRIAGE RUMORS: Actor says it comes with being a celebrity.(March 8, 2007)
*During roundtable press interviews for the film “I Think I Love My Wife,” EUR’s Lee Bailey asked star Chris Rock about recent rumors surrounding his marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock. Last November, the actor was reported to have begun divorce proceedings, but weeks later, the couple showed up together at several red carpet events. New York papers reported recently that producers of Rock’s new film asked him to put the divorce on hold until after the movie hits theaters on March 16. The Rocks issued a joint statement last week denying those reports. On Tuesday in Los Angeles, Bailey asked Rock if he was rattled by the rumors about his marriage. “Naw, I mean, my kids are really young. Probably when I get older and when my kids get older, I’ll probably care a little more,” he said. “You know, I read stuff when I’m in the house, in the bed with my wife and I’m like, ‘Hey it says we’re breaking up.’ It’s like, we’re cool, you know. It’s all good. You can’t live your life about reports and stuff. “You gotta realize this when you’re in show business. If you accept the good, you have to accept the bad too. So I can’t sit here and say, ‘Aw man that was a great review, you were so right.’ And then get pissed because I’m gonna actually profit off this and someone takes my picture or whatever. There’s a part of this that I’m actually gaining something out of it. So when they switch the tables, I have to take it like a man sometimes.”
Chris and Malaak Compton-Rock Further explaining his point, Rock said: “It ain’t really true that I’m great either. It’s like, ‘he’s the funniest man in America.’ I ain’t the funniest man in America, but I come out and wave every time they say it. So, you know, I mean it just goes with the turf. You can’t be happy that fire cooks your food and be mad it burns your fingertips.”
