*A poster promoting Beyonce’s upcoming music tour through Australia does not sit well with the continent’s anti-tobacco crowd, who has come out against its depiction of the singer holding a cigarette in a long, vintage holder.
"There are other ways she can create this image without having to use tobacco products," said Queensland Cancer Fund tobacco issues co-coordinator Catherine Mahony in an interview with Australian newspaper The Courier Mail. "With young women, image issues usually win out over health issues and it can actually be a prompt for them to start smoking." See photo of ad here:
Back in the States, Beyonce ended up in the same room as Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama during a New York fund raiser Monday night thrown by Island Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid.
Tommy Hilfiger, Babyface, Jermaine Dupri, Universal Music head Doug Morris and record execs Steve Bartels, Sylvia Rhone and Andre Harrell were among those who paid $2,300 a pop for the chance to rub shoulders with the Illinois senator. But it was Beyonce who reportedly had Obama acting out of character.
A witness told the New York Daily News that our possible next president approached Bey and said: "I never do this, but can I ask for your autograph?" The two eventually posed for a photograph, with Obama reportedly yelling: "I want a copy of that picture!"
Beyonce’s boyfriend Jay-Z was also at the fund-raiser, even though he broke bread a few nights earlier with former president Bill Clinton, the husband of Obama’s political rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
