"I am a living testimony to the fact that God is real. I guess you're wondering how I know this.  Well I once was sick, but now I'm healed. And I k now it was nothing but the grace of God. . .I'm alive today to testify that God still heals." -- Track #7 "God Still Heals" -- Lyrics from DeWayne Woods who was miraculously cured of HIV.

Wearing a mile-wide smile, gospel singer DeWayne Woods is the picture of health today.  He has emerged from the valley of the shadow of death as a medical anomaly.  After living HIV positive for years, a random re-test in 2001 showed his medical slate was miraculously wiped clean with no signs of HIV!

Baffled by the initial reading, doctors ordered a battery of tests that pronounced DeWayne Woods as utterly and completely free of the virus that causes AIDS. He says they told him, 'Well, you can go home now, your test is negative."  To confirm the startling findings, the results of Woods' blood tests were escalated to the elite national medical review board for evaluation.  The board also was dumbfounded.  He has medically documented proof that the disease left without evidence of ever being present.

As recollected on his freshman CD, this amazing testimony of his dramatic healing is a reminder that faith can move mountains and God still performs miracles:

It was in 1992 that the veteran background (a polished vocalist, he is a former member of John P. Kee's New Life Community Choir, Donald Lawrence and The Tri-City Singers and has sang with R&B group Atlantic Star,  Celine Dion, and jazz saxophonist Kurt Whalum) singer took an opportunity when he was not on the road a to get a physical exam which led to his diagnosis.  Suffering over a long period, at one point spending two weeks hospitalized, the disease had exhausted the artist to the point of giving up.

The first cases of the disease had been detected only 10 years prior (1982); drugs were experimental; people were more AIDS-phobic  and stand-offish; many churches were numb toward the situation; there were more questions than  answers and Woods did not have  Magic Johnson's pleasant popularity or purse.

Yet, instead of being overtaken by the grave circumstances Woods decided to take authority over his body through the power of God:   "If  I was gonna sing about God being a healer, then I wanted him to do it," he humbly recalls in his bold and inspiring story offered on track #7, "DeWayne's Testimony."

His attitude adjustment paved the way to a divinely conducted breakthrough and solo project that soars on its lyrical integrity alone.  Woods understands the impact that disclosing his testimony has on the reception of the project.

"It's helping people to embrace the music because it's coming from a real life experience-it's not just somebody  singing, but it's from somebody that's lived something and with that testimony they're able to kind feel where  I am," DeWayne said.

From this experience Woods developed a blind dependency on God that is clear on the majority of the 12 uplifting ballads and praise tracks.  Especially moving is the song of surrender, "Let Go and Let God" (written by P.J. Morton).  Good medicine for anyone who feels they just can't take it anymore it is in heavy rotation at radio.  The remaining ballads and praise songs are all gems.

Fortunately, times have changed and Woods has managed to preclude the negativity from the church.  The church at large is beginning to openly discuss the disease and seek to provide outreach to those with it.

"I really have been embraced very well.  A lot of people need testimonies like that.  It's really been a very positive time."  (Click below to listen to "DeWayne's Testimony")
