ARTEST HIT WITH FOUR MISDEMEANORS: Kings forward faces charges from domestic dispute earlier this month.(March 22, 2007)
*Late Tuesday, the district attorney’s office in Placer County, Calif. filed four misdemeanor charges against Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest in connection with the domestic dispute at his home earlier this month. Placer County D.A. Dan Quick said the NBA star will be arraigned today (3/22) on charges of battery and corporal injury to a spouse, false imprisonment and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. Each carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison. The athlete was arrested March 5 after Artest’s wife Kimsha called 911 complaining that her husband was trying to take a vehicle from their home in Loomis, 25 miles northeast of Sacramento. She and Artest were arguing inside the home when he pushed her, she told police. The argument moved outside when Artest tried to leave in his Hummer. Kimsha told police she threw a pot at the Hummer, shattering its windshield. She told the 911 dispatcher that her finger was cut and leg scratched. Their 3-year-old daughter was inside of the house during the incident. According to the Placer County sheriff's report, Kimsha said Artest took the phone away from her the first time she tried to call 911. Artest was arrested and taken into custody, but released hours later after posting a $50,000 bond. Five days after his arrest, Artest said he'd stumbled as a father and husband and apologized to his wife and his family, as well as to the Kings and his teammates. Speak Out
