TOMI RAE SELECTS GUARDIAN FOR J.B. II. Partner of late singer prepares to determine son’s paternity.(April 6, 2007)
*Tomi Rae Hynie, the woman claiming to be the widow of James Brown, has taken the first step in determining the paternity of her son by selecting a special guardian she hopes will be appointed for him. Hynie’s attorney, Robert Rosen, said Tuesday that a DNA test proving the paternity of her son, James Brown II, cannot be done without appointing a special guardian. Brown's trustees have already come up with a list of attorneys to serve as the special guardian. However, Hynie's petition asks that Charleston attorney Stephen M. Slotchiver be appointed, reports the Associated Press. As previously reported, Brown's trustees filed a motion last month asking a judge to order DNA taken from Hynie's son. Neither Hynie nor her son was included in the singer’s will. "Her public position has always been that she has no objection to a DNA test," her attorney, Robert Rosen, said Tuesday. A court hearing to appoint the special guardian has been scheduled for later this month. Speak Out
