FILM/TV BITS: ‘Shrek’ soundtrack; Rock hosts Stunt Awards; Grier honored; ‘Charm School’ ratings; Codeblack’s ‘Rain’ DVD.(April 19, 2007)
*The soundtrack for the upcoming film “Shrek the Third,” due May 15 from Geffen, will feature Fergie covering Heart’s classic rock track “Barracuda” and a duet between Eddie Murphy (as Donkey) and Antonio Banderas (as Puss in Boots) of Sly & the Family Stone's "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)." Donkey’s past “Shrek” singles include the Monkees' "I'm a Believer" and Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca." The album will also include Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," Paul McCartney and Wings' "Live and Let Die," Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle," the Ramones' "Do You Remember Rock'n'Roll Radio," eels' "Royal Pain" and songs by Wolfmother, Macy Gray, Matt White and Trevor Hall. DreamWorks will put the film in theaters on May 18. *Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will host the Taurus World Stunt Foundation’s 2007 Taurus World Stunt Awards, to be held Sunday, May 20 at Paramount Studios. The show – which will air Friday, May 25 at 10:30 p.m. on AMC – is the entertainment industry's only award show that honors and celebrates Hollywood's top stunt professionals,” said Johnson. "I have the utmost respect for the stunt community, which is why I am so happy to be hosting the TWSA for the second time. As actors, we truly appreciate all that they do as they literally put their life on the line for the sake of filmmaking. The stunt community is like family to me and I'm proud to be a part of honoring them." The Rock will next be seen in Disney's "The Game Plan," due out this fall. In addition, he’s currently shooting "Get Smart" opposite Steve Carrell for Warner Bros. *Pam Grier has earned a lifetime achievement award from the San Jose-Silicon Valley NAACP, reports the San Jose Mercury News. The 70s siren, best known for her films “Foxy Brown,” “Coffy” and “Sheba Baby,” accepted the honor at the 55th annual Freedom and Friendship gala on Sunday. Other NAACP Award recipients include California Assemblyman Joe Coto and former Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta. Grier currently stars in the Showtime original series “The L Word.” *“Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School starring Mo’Nique” drew 5.07 million total viewers in its April 15 premiere to become the biggest series debut in VH1’s history. The premiere broke the old record of 4.43 million set by “I Love New York” in January. “Charm” placed first among adults 18-49 and 18-34 for the week on basic cable and was sixth for the week in total viewers. It also bettered the then-record premiere for last year’s “Flavor of Love 2,” the show “New York” and “Charm” were both spun off from, in all demos. *Codeblack Entertainment will distribute the film adaptation of New York Times Best Selling author V.C. Andrews’ book “Rain” on DVD May 29. “Rain,” the first title of a mega-hit V.C. Andrews series that has sold over 5 million copies worldwide for Pocket Books/Simon and Schuster, follows a musical prodigy whose world is turned upside down when she uncovers the racially charged mystery of her true heritage. The cast includes Khandi Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito and newcomer Brooklyn Sudano – daughter of Donna Summer. Speak Out
