*The new May 14 issue of Jet magazine, on newsstands Monday (5/7) features Dr. Donda West, mother of hip-hop star Kanye West, touting her new book, Raising Kanye. "Single mothers could benefit from something I did in raising Kanye," said West, a former professor at Chicago State University. "There will be some blessings that people might find not only valuable, but also entertaining and interesting. It's not really a how to book. This is my story." The issue also covers the performance of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama in the first democratic debate held on the campus of historically Black South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC.

*The latest issue of Hip Hop Weekly includes an exclusive interview with a source very close to the Trinidadian model rumored to be the mother of Jay-Z's child. The source tells all, stating: "Jay-Z is definitely the father of Isa-Jael" and that Beyonce has known about the child for quite some time. Also in the issue are interviews with Ice Cube, Paul Wall and Trey Songz. R&B singer Joe talks food in "Belly of the Beats" and supermodel Tyson Beckford talks motorcycles in "310 Whips."

*The Don Imus-fueled controversy over misogynistic rap lyrics surrounds Ebony magazine’s recent decision to pull rapper Ludacris from the cover of its June issue on "the New Black Fathers" and replace him with actor, Boris Kodjoe, reports Journal-isms. "Something has changed in America in the last few weeks," Bryan Monroe, editorial director of Ebony and Jet magazines, told Journal-isms, without disclosing the identity of the rapper. As president of the National Association of Black Journalists, Monroe led the movement to have Imus fired. "I think the media is being called to account in these areas," Monroe said. There is an opportunity to "transfer the conversation around language, race, inclusiveness and diversity," as he said in his NABJ president's column.

*Andrea Kelly, the estranged wife of R. Kelly, sits down in an exclusive interview with Essence to talk about her 11-year marriage, starting her life over and that notorious sex tape. “I have to take responsibility for myself. I don’t want to act as if I have some halo over my head. A person has to ask, ‘How much did I allow?’” she says in the June “Black Music Month” special collector’s edition, on newsstands May 11. Read her story now exclusively on Essence.com.
