*Presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton has confirmed an appearance at the 13th Annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on Friday, July 6. “I am especially pleased to attend the Essence Music Festival this year as they celebrate ‘homecoming’ and return to New Orleans two years after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina,” said Senator Clinton. “I look forward to the opportunity to engage with festival attendees during the Empowerment Seminars to talk about my candidacy and my commitment to addressing issues that are important to the African American community.” The three-day Festival’s day-time Empowerment Seminars, taking place in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. As previously announced, Senator Barack Obama will also participate in the Essence Music Festival, speaking on Thursday, July 5 at the Louisiana Superdome. This year’s event has been themed, “The Black Out,” and is being co-chaired by Jasmyne Cannick and Alan-Michael Graves, board members of the National Black Justice Coalition, the nations largest black gay civil rights group. Actor Boris Kodjoe and acting coach Susan Batson are among the special guests scheduled to attend. attending this year's Festival. Kodjoe will attend the MFA screening of his film "All About Us" a movie about two struggling Hollywood filmmakers who decide to travel to Clarksdale, Mississippi, to personally ask Morgan Freemen to star in their next movie. Also appearing is Anthony Montgomery star of RFF opening night film, "I'm Through with White Girls," a romantic comedy directed by Jennifer Sharp. Victoria Rowell will screen her new short film, "The Mentor" and will be signing copies of her book, The Women Who Raised Me.
