FILM/TV NEWS: No ‘24’ in Africa; sexy Halle; Malinda at NAACP Convention; Milian on ABC Fam.
*TV Guide is reporting that executives at Fox have scrapped the entire story line for the upcoming 7th season of “24” which was supposed to take place in Africa. Apparently, the budget was too expensive for producers, who at one point even thought about finding a Los Angeles location to sub for Africa. Shooting was scheduled to begin by the end of the month, but with the last minute rewrites, “I don't think we're starting until a couple of weeks into August now," said actress Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays Chloe.
*Halle Berry and Beyonce tied for 5th place in a new poll of Hollywood’s sexiest celebrities. The tally comes from Encino, Calif.-based polling firm E-Poll Market Research. They were beaten by Salma Hayek at No. 1 and Jessica Alba at No. 2. Also making he list are Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Elizabeth Hurley.
*On Tuesday at the 98th Annual NAACP Convention in Detroit, actress Malinda Williams told her moving story about growing up the youngest of three girls and memories of her father’s commitment to raising them. Promoting the importance of a positive male figure in the development of young girls, Williams read her personal essay about the great life lesson’s her father taught her as a child. Her full essay can be read in the upcoming book “Daughters of Men: Portraits of African American Women and Their Fathers” (Amistad/HarperCollins), in bookstores November, 2007. *Christina Milian has been cast in ABC Family’s “Snowglobe,” a film that will be part of the cable channel's 25 Days of Christmas programming, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film stars Milian as a woman who magically transports herself from the humdrum real world into the idyllic setting in her gradmother's snow globe, where she meets her love interest, played by "Scream 3's" Matt Keesler. Production will begin at the end of the month in Calgary, Canada. The 25-year-old actress-singer will also star in the CW pilot "Eight Days a Week" as Olivia, one of four friends who work for the elite in New York City.
