*John Singleton, who is tapped to direct a big screen adaptation of Marvel comics hero “Luke Cage,” says he’s just been approached about shooting a film version of Marvel’s “Black Panther.”

"I really wanted to do both of those pictures. I've always been a fan of Marvel comics, so it depends. I can do 'Cage' or 'Black Panther,'” he told Blackfilm.com.

“Black Panther,” created by Stan Lee in 1966, is considered the first modern black superhero.  The character is said to predate the forming of the Black Panther Party that same year in the Bay Area.

As for the delay in filming “Luke Cage,” Singleton explains: "If you put a black face on it, they think it's a black thing; but yet we have all these movies that have come up and whenever they put any black people in it, they make all this money. That's the thing that's holding 'Luke Cage' up. They think it's a small superhero movie."

While no stars have been confirmed for the title role for “Cage,” Tyrese Gibson is reportedly a frontrunner.
