EVENT CALENDAR: Beyonce at Macy’s; Trin-I-Tee 5:7 video shoot; ‘Break Into Hollywood’ in L.A.; Cheryl Green meeting in L.A.; Sample in TX.(August 16, 2007)
*Beyonce will make an appearance in New York at 12 noon today at the Macy’s on 34th Street to launch Emporio Armani Diamonds fragrance. The first 150 fans in line who purchase the Armani gift set will have the chance to meet the singer and have her sign the fragrance. *Trin-I-Tee 5:7 returns home to New Orleans to film the video for their new single, "Listen," on Aug. 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shoot will feature local celebrities, including radio personalities Loretta Petit and Cap'n Kris, and the East St. John marching band. The gospel trio’s new album, "T57," will be in stores Sept. 18. *How to Break Into Hollywood…A Writing Career will be presented at the 22nd Annual African Marketplace & Cultural Faire on Aug. 25 and 26 at Rancho Cienega Park in Los Angeles (5001 Rodeo Road). The symposium offers insight on how to get in the door, what movie studios and radio stations are looking for when submitting work and what writing opportunities are available in the entertainment industry. Each day begins at 4 p.m. in the Literary Village. Guest speakers include Ted Lange (actor/playwright/director), Wren T. Brown actor/producer) and Sylvia Franklin (President, Organization of Black Screenwriters)/ AFMCF is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. *African American and Latino community leaders in Los Angeles announce the creation of the Cheryl Green Youth Foundation to help end racial and gang violence in the Harbor Gateway area. The foundation is named in memory of the 14-year-old African American girl who was killed by Latino gang members in a hate crime last December. The group’s first meeting will be held on noon Sunday, Aug 19, at the Torrance Plaza Hotel (20801 S. Western Ave.). The meeting is open to the entire community. Please bring your children to be registered. Cheryl Green will also be remembered on what would have been her 15th birthday. For more info, visit www.cherylgreenfoundation.org. *Legendary jazz pianist Joe Sample and his trio will headline the 3rd Annual Henriette Delille Legacy Concert on Sept, 15 at the Grand 1894 Opera House in Gavelston Island, Texas. Sample created the concert in 2004 to raise funds for Houston’s inner city parochial schools. This year’s show will also feature vocalist Randy Crawford and smooth jazz trumpeter Rick Braun.
