*LL Cool J’s new CBS series, “The Man,” is on the verge of getting a midseason pickup.

The pilot, from "CSI" creator Anthony Zuiker, failed to make it on the fall schedule during announcements in May, but had always remained in contention for the midseason.

The production from CBS Paramount Network stars the hip hop artist as an undercover Los Angeles police officer who takes care of an orphan boy. Should the series be picked up officially, the pilot is expected to be reworked and reshot by the end of the year, reports the trades.

There is also talk that "CSI: NY" executive producers Pam Veasey and Peter Lenkov may come on board the project.
