*The 5th Annual Hoodie Awards, hosted by Steve Harvey and saluting achievements within local urban communities, will cap a weekend of events in Las Vegas during the weekend of Oct. 19 at the Orleans Arena (4500 West Tropicana Ave.) [See full scheduled below.] The brainchild of Harvey and television/radio producer Rushion McDonald, the Hoodie Awards on Oct. 20 honors local business establishments, religious and community leaders, churches and high schools for their contributions and excellence within various neighborhoods. The 12 categories are: Best Church, Best Beauty Salon, Best Community Leader, Best Barbershop, Best High School Teacher, Best Fried Chicken Place, Best Soul Food Place, Best High School, Best Car Wash/Detail Shop, Best Bar-B-Que Place, Best Nail Salon, Best Church Choir. Celebs confirmed as presenters include the O’Jays, Anthony Anderson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Mo’Nique, Tichina Arnold, Stephen A Smith, Niecy Nash, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq, Tonex, Wendy Raquel Robinson, VH1’s New York, Salli Richardson, Montel Williams, Yolanda Adams and Cedric “The” Entertainer. Meanwhile, The Steve Harvey Morning Show will broadcast live from the Orleans Hotel and Casino from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. Oct.17, 18 and 19. • The Hillshire Farm Presents Freedom Friday Tailgating Crème Party will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday Oct.19 in the Orleans Arena parking lot. There will be food, music, dancing and a Barbecue Cook-Off Contest. • A bowling tournament hosted by Shirley Strawberry and Carla Ferrell will take place from midnight to 3 p.m. Friday in the Orleans Arena. • Ford F-150 presents The 5th Annual Hoodie Awards on Saturday, Oct. 20.
