      *South African President Nelson Mandela held a press conference in Johannesburg Monday to announce the next benefit concert for his 46664 AIDS charity.  "Today, we are happy to announce that 46664 will stage a similar concert here in Johannesburg on the First of December on World AIDS Day," said Mandela, whose son died of the disease in 2005. Profits will help fund HIV/AIDS awareness and outreach programs throughout southern Africa, the epicenter of the worldwide AIDS epidemic. The names of the artists performing in this year's event were not released.

       *John Legend, Patti LaBelle, Joss Stone and Chaka Khan are scheduled to perform without compensation at Denise Rich's G&P's Angel Ball on Oct. 29 aboard her 157-foot yacht in New York Harbor. Proceeds will benefit Rich's G&P Foundation for cancer research.

       *Bobby Brown has been added to the musical lineup of L.A.'s 2nd Annual Taste of Soul, joining Angie Stone, Rahsaan Patterson, Angela Winbush, Evelyn Champagne King, Gary Taylor, Leon Ware, Jeff Majors, The Polyester Players and The LA Unified Jazz Band. Presented by the Los Angeles Sentinel and V100, along with city officials, the event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Crenshaw Blvd. between Martin Luther King and Rodeo Road. Admission is free.

       *Pharrell will co-headline a concert event with Fall Out Boy at the transformed Paramount Studios in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Oct, 10. The invitation-only event is the culmination of the 2007 Hennessy Artistry Concert Tour, a series of 14 private shows in seven cities which featured musical acts such as Ne-Yo, Miri Ben-Ari, Kelis, Chrisette Michele and DJ D-Nice. "We are thrilled that Pharrell Williams and Fall Out Boy will be participating in our finale event this year. Hennessy Artistry is all about mixing; mixing music, cocktails and audiences together for a thrilling unique experience," says Israel Cancel, Hennessy Communications Director.

       *"American Idol" judge Randy Jackson is holding a casting call for people living with type 2 diabetes. The music industry veteran has partnered with the American Heart Association to speak on behalf of The Heart of Diabetes, a national campaign to help those living with type 2 diabetes manage the disease. "When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I thought, 'Wow, I have a serious disease,'" Jackson said. "I've learned that people can live well, with proper management of this disease, and that hearing stories about how others manage type 2 diabetes helps me." Those who submit their stories on www.IKnowDiabetes.org by Oct. 21 will be eligible to appear with Jackson in a public service announcement.       

       *SoulTracks (www.soultracks.com), a Web site for soul music, has announced that its annual Readers’ Choice Awards, the largest international awards dedicated to independent soul music, will be take place on Friday, Nov. 16 at the Riverfront Ballroom in Detroit’s COBO Center. Readers can vote online at http://www.soultracks.com/2007_Readers_Choice_Finalists through Oct. 15 for the top performers of the past year, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and top Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Duo or Group and Best New Artist.  A Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to legendary Stylistics lead singer Russell Thompkins, Jr., the voice behind some of the most popular soul ballads of all time. Tickets are available here.
