CONGRESSMAN/CIVIL RIGHTS ICON COMES OUT FOR HILLARY CLINTON: John Lewis' Endorsement Deals Blow to Barack Obama.

Civil Rights Movement veteran and current Congressman from Georgia John Lewis (Democrat) endorsed the presidential candidacy of Hillary Rodham Clinton this past Friday dealing a blow to the presidential ambitions of Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

Obama has been quietly courting prominent Black political figures in his bid to become the nation's first African American president.

His efforts have been quiet because he did not want to be seen as the "Black" candidate for president for fear of alienating white voters.

Moderate politicians such as Lewis with a prestigious history in the Civil Rights Movement were among those Obama was trying to bring to his side.

The lost of Lewis was a blow to these efforts. Lewis has had a long political relationship with Clinton's husband - former President Bill Clinton. In endorsing Mrs. Clinton, Lewis issued a statement saying, "I have looked at all the candidates, and I believe Hillary Clinton is the best prepared to lead this country at a time when we are in desperate need of strong leadership."
