Like an elegant delicacy for the ears, the debut album from Audio Caviar, Transoceanic, is a sonic delight that serves as a passport to an audacious audio adventure through an expansive array of musical styles.

The three band members and their accomplished guests exhibit a mastery of their instruments; the production is organic, intricate and inviting; and the well-crafted, memorable songs connect with listeners on a variety of levels.

Last month, we sent you the 17-track collection that will be released for the first time in the U.S. in its entirety October 23rd.

Having proudly played a role in creating an enduring musical legacy as an original member of Earth, Wind & Fire, drummer-vocalist Ralph Johnson set out to forge a separate identity for his musical wanderlust.

Joined by former EWF musical director, keyboardist-bassist-flugelhorn player Morris Pleasure and Danish guitarist Steen Kyed, Johnson initially envisioned recording an album as a traditional jazz trio.

But once inside the nurturing environs of recording studios in Copenhagen and Los Angeles where Johnson and Pleasure produced with Marcel East (Fourplay, Bob James, David Benoit), the compositions and recordings experienced a metamorphosis, blossoming into elaborate and substantive endeavors that brazenly push the outer limits in scope while loosely tethered to a jazz, urban and World Music base.  Audio Caviar members had a hand in penning a dozen songs for Transoceanic, which was completed by songs by Miles Davis ("All Blues") and Ivan Lins ("The Island") and new material from Jonathan Butler ("Jodie") and a trio of Danish songwriters ("Hookline").

Lending their talents to the opus were George Duke, Howard Hewett, Dori Caymmi, Paulinho De Costa, EWF's Philip Bailey and Verdine White, Al McKay (original EWF guitarist) and the EWF horn section.  Prefacing the album release, "Dominique," featuring an exquisite piano melody embedded in a mid-tempo R&B groove and a celestial chorus crooned by Bailey, was serviced to radio where it is swiftly being added to playlists.

For Johnson, Audio Caviar is no whimsical side project.  Although he is still highly active with EWF, with whom he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he is fully committed to piloting Audio Caviar to success.  Johnson, along with Pleasure, a classically trained pianist who has toured and/or recorded with Janet Jackson, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Roberta Flack, and Rachelle Ferrell, and Kyed, who is a member of the Danish band TAO, have begun writing material for the next Audio Caviar CD.  Have you considered them for a feature, interview, album review and/or inclusion in any appropriate roundup pieces?
