KLEOPATRA GIRL'S RINGSIDE REPORT: Urban Network Magazine Publisher Miller London Celebrates 20 years.(February 21, 2008)
"Even the photogs had fun. One showed up sans camera and instinctively started giving others orders on how to click and shoot. While yet, another photog on the dance floor swore he was not dancing because he was workin'..right, dream on."
One of the most fun parties during Black History month was undoubtedly the Urban Network Magazine 20th year celebration hosted by publisher Miller London. The music was slammin' jammin' and rocked my world. Usually there is a delay before the real fun begins but not at this event. It was already happening when I arrived and continued to the end. I totally forgot myself and partied all night long. Every time I promised to sit down and just be cool another great R&B song would play and I would yield to the intoxicating beat. But I was not the only one in dancer's bliss. Publicists Stephanie Abdullah and Lynn Allen Jeter who slowly eased onto the floor were also seen shakin' a tail feather or two either in place or on the dance floor, as well as publisher of EURweb.com Lee Bailey, who was surprisingly burning a hole in the floor dancing the night away with one of EURweb's popular columnists. We'll leave you guessing here???!! Lee Bailey & Miller London (photo: Vinni Ratcliff) Miller London also danced "Detroit cool" every chance he could when not pulled away for a photo opp or to make an announcement. He graciously thanked his staffers and supporters for making Urban Network Magazine the giant of a music publication that it is. Even the photogs had fun. Famed Hollywood photographer Arnold Turner showed up sans camera but instinctively could not resist giving other photographers pointers on where and when and how to click and shoot on the red carpet. I told him, he should go get his camera and stop giving orders (nicely mind you, he's a fellow well-loved Bostonian homeboy). His colleague Vinni R.ditched his ebony one-eyed baby on a seat and was also seen sweatin' and moving his feet around on the dance floor all the while claiming that he was not dancing because he was workin', right, dream on V. Many of LA's radio personalities were in the house to receive honors from Miller including KJLH's Aundrae Russell, Big Paul Tuival (Regional Promotion Manager for Universal-Motown) and Brian Samson (Regional Promotion Manager for Island Def Jam Records). Well-known music execs on hand to show their love included, A&R/radio airplay man Bruce Jones (Pat Boone R&B Classics We Are Family), Guy Black from KJLH and music manager Carmela C. Martin (UNET Music & Entertainment, Inc.). Actor, Ernest Thomas (Everybody Hates Chris) and R&B soul singer UNE? were seen networking and posing for shots. Pretty Denise Bishop, talent booker for VH-1 stayed for a brief spell and then had to dash. Beautiful, knockout song stress Lina provided entertainment. It was a grown and "sexy time" crowd that did not want to leave. They continued to party long after the lights went up. How do I know.well.? It was one of the best parties I had been to in a long, long time. Shout out to David Mitchell for organizing such a fun night. Put me on the list for next year's event!
