*According to a study released last week, among women with uterine fibroids, African American women tend to be affected younger and more severely than white women.

Dr. Cynthia Morton explained, “There are underlying genetic liabilities in some women to develop uterine fibroids, and this finding is reinforced by our study identifying race as a risk factor.”

Morton headed a team of researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard Medical School.

The team reported its findings in last week’s edition of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Morton is currently looking for additional African American women to participate in upcoming studies planned by the researchers. (Taylor Media Services)
