HUGHLEY, O'BRIEN WIN DIVERSITY AWARDS: NAMIC ceremony celebrates cable's commitment to multi-ethnic programming.(April 18, 2008)
*Comedian D.L. Hughley, journalist Soledad O'Brien and a CNN special on the Jena 6 case were among the announced winners of the 14th Annual NAMIC Vision Awards, recognizing multi-ethnic original programming on cable TV. The awards were hosted by "Access Hollywood's" Shaun Robinson and presented at a special luncheon ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. Hughley won in the comedy category for his HBO special "Hughley: Unapologetic," while CNN's O'Brien took home a News/Informational trophy for her special "American Morning: MLK Series." CNN's "Special Investigations Unit: Judgment in Jena" won for Best Documentary, and BET J picked up the Best Variety/Talk Show prize for "My Two Cents." HBO led the 29 networks vying for honors in 14 award categories with a trio of wins. HBO's made-for-television movie "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," garnered a win for Best Drama and Best Performance - Drama honors for actor, Adam Beach. "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" chronicled the history of Native Americans in the American West during the 19th century. Speak Out
