KLEOPATRA GIRL'S RINGSIDE REPORT: Cinco De Mayo @ Republic remembering Jamiel Shaw
*You may not know the name Jamiel Shaw but many celebrities poured into Republic (night spot on La Cienega) on Cinco De Mayo to make sure he will not be forgotten.
Unfortunately this young man was gunned down by gang members just three blocks from his home.
The cause, inter-racial senseless killing. Many stars such as, Ray J, Johnny V. (Venokur – Scott Baio Show), UNE’ (a socially conscious spirited R&B artist), Comedienne Luenell, TV Icon Ernest Thomas, video hottie Elke The Stallion, reality TV star Goldie, Music Producer Craig Ell (The Hills), Music Manager Carmela C. Martin and gritty soul songstress Keyshia Cole let it be known by their celebrity presence that this has to end.
As a Latina from Tiquisate, Guatemala and foster child of an African American family with a son of mixed heritage (African-American and Latino) I was proud to take a stand also.
The party reflected a mix crowd but the music was predominatly R&B/Hip Hop. One top comedy star requested that they play a little salsa to round out the music but alas the request was not granted.
I would have liked to have heard a little more equally mixed music too, since it was after-all Cinco De Mayo. Much later in the evening a Mariachi band was posted in front of the venue adding un poquito sabor con gusto to the event. TMZ cameras were there also to catch many celebrities as they exited the venue.
It saddens me that I had to learn about Jamiel Shaw in this fashion however, I was pleased that Hollywood came to show their respect and stand for a good cause to end violence in our streets. Cinco De Mayo at Republic was a party with meaning.
