ISRAEL & NEW BREED PAY TRIBUTE TO MAYA ANGELOU: Legendary poet/author is serenaded for her 80th birthday celebration.

     Dr. Maya Angelou was recently serenaded to by Grammy Award winning Israel and New Breed in celebration of her 80th birthday.

     The legendary poet/author was honored with a performance of the groups’ single “If Not For Your Grace” on their current CD, “A Deeper Level.”

     The birthday celebration was hosted by Lynn Whitfield and Tyler Perry. Others in attendance at the Symphony Hall in Atlanta were Quincy Jones, Chris Tucker, Bernice King, and Mayor Shirley Franklin.

     Ambassador Andrew and Carolyn Young were the visionaries for this gala. They wanted to create a memorable event for their long-time friend that would celebrate her life and accomplishments.

     The many facets of Angelou’s life were presented in various phases: dance, human rights, and spirituality. Each segment featured one of the evening’s special guests.

     The night was filled with family, friends and well-wishers showing their gratitude for a life that has impacted people from every background.
