J-HUD'S DEBUT ALBUM DUE IN SEPTEMBER: 'Idol' vet's self-titled project led by first single 'Spotlight.'

      *Now that her latest role in the upcoming "Sex in the City" movie is in the can, Jennifer Hudson will pivot back to her roots and work to complete her self-titled debut album by its September release date.

       The first single, "Spotlight," will impact U.S. radio outlets on June 9 and be available for sale via digital outlets the following day, reports Billboard. [Scroll down for a listen.]

      The track was written and co-produced by singer-songwriter Ne-Yo. Additional contributors on the album include Timbaland, Robin Thicke, the Underdogs, Diane Warren and Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, among others.

      "I think people will be pleasantly surprised, because it shows a side of my work that no one has heard before," said the Academy Award winner of her Arista album.

      In addition to co-starring in "Sex in the City," Hudson also appears on its soundtrack, due May 27 via New Line. Her next film project, "The Secret Life of Bees," hits theaters on Oct. 17.
