ITTY BITTY BITS: ' ColliPark Cafe Sessions'; McCain headed to NAACP; Bey baby rumors; Kanye cancels; Chuck D's company; Mayweather lawsuit; Madonna & Tyson.(May 22, 2008)
*Hidden Beach is offering for free download a sample version of its upcoming album "Unwrapped Vol. 5.0 - The ColliPark Cafe Sessions" on its Web site in advance of its June 24 release date. The album, described as "jazzy flips of hip hop hits," features smoothed-out versions of such ColliPark classics as Soulja Boy's "Crank That," Plies' "Shawty," the Ying Yang Twins' "Salt Shaker" and Lil Jon's "Get Low." Take a listen at the hidden beach home page www.hiddenbeach.com. *As previously reported, presumptive Republican nominee John McCain had a sit down with Essence magazine as part of his overall attempt to connect with African American voters. The Arizona senator said in the interview that he has accepted an invitation from the NAACP to appear at its 99th convention this summer (July 12-17) in Cincinnati. McCain told Essence he will "go to places and venues that would allow me to continue a dialogue with the African-American community. I will go to the NAACP convention." *A female celebrity's sudden halt of alcohol consumption – without being court ordered to do so – is usually a sign that a bun may be in the oven. According to the New York Post's Page Six, Beyonce has been "steering clear of the sauce" lately, fueling rumors that her marriage to Jay-Z was of the shotgun variety. "The hip-hop queen, who often enjoys a flute of champagne, abstained from any alcohol whatsoever at the Kanye West after-party at 1Oak last week," the column reported. According to a source, "Beyoncé only drank water." *Speaking of Kanye, he has canceled his Glow in the Dark tour stop this Sunday (May 25) at The Fargo Dome in Fargo, North Dakota, reports Allhiphop.com. Promoters blame the cancellation on his hectic travel schedule and low ticket sales. “I can’t really make it a secret that ticket sales were not as anticipated," Fargodome manager Rob Sobolik told Fargo’s Forum newspaper. Phone and internet tickets purchased via Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds, while tickets picked up at a box office should be returned to their original point of sale. *Public Enemy co-founder Chuck D has launched Bring The Noise Eastlink Media, Management, Music Group (BTNEastlink), a new company that offers a wide range of business and digital media services for artists under one roof. Chuck D runs the company with entertainment lawyer and digital media consultant Dan Lugo and producer Gary G-Wiz. So far, BTNEastlink houses the SlamJamz Records label and divisions to handle artist management, marketing, consulting, video game scoring and other services. BTNEastlink will offer its clients what Chuck D. defined as “what Live Nation has promised Jay-Z, to a much lesser degree,” adding that he is looking to work with veteran artists, as well as up comers, to further market them across the world. *Floyd Mayweather filed a lawsuit against the Web site FloydMayweather.net claiming that it is falsely promoting itself as his official fan site. According to TMZ.com, the site not only uses his name and image without permission, but it features fight footage and requests that fans fork over $50. In a Nevada lawsuit, Pretty Boy is seeking unspecified damages. *Madonna has reportedly recruited former boxing champion Mike Tyson in her campaign to help the impoverished nation of Malawi, where she adopted her son David Banda from an orphanage in 2006. According to British newspaper the Daily Mirror, the singer has approached Tyson to help spearhead her Raising Malawi charity effort after the pair met at the Cannes International Film Festival earlier this week. "Madonna thinks Mike is amazing and he has promised to fly with her to Malawi in late summer to promote awareness of children with AIDS there," said a source. "Mike is eager to show he's turned over a new leaf and thinks this is the perfect way to do it." Speak Out
