"Judges were a show in themselves."

*Things got off to a slow start at the Uplifting Minds II Entertainment Conference Showcase held at the Los Angeles Convention Center featuring new talent but they heated up when judges went wild.

Put two comedians together side by side and you've got mayhem. That was the case when Ernest Thomas known to millions as "Raj" on the hit comedy series of the 80's "What's Happening" and today's comedy series "Everybody Hates Chris" (Mr. Omar) sat next to Borat's zany Luenell.

While they were waiting for the show to get underway they cracked more jokes and kept each other in stitches. Their laughs were so infectious that audience members were laughing too, just watching them.

Then walked in Lee Bailey, publisher of EURweb.com www.eurweb.com (late I might add, but before the competion started) who judged with Luenell last year. Dubbed, "Simon" Lee is known as "the voice" with a deep baritone distinctive delivery. He was seated at the other end of the dais far removed from Borat's babe, possibly because last year he and Luenell had a go at it like Paula Abdul and Simon.

This year, there were only five singing acts and I have to admit once the show got underway all judges acted as professionals until a group with sexy moves and hot bods heated things up a little and Luenell jumped on top of the table letting out the wild, untamed, untutored tigress within and everyone in the audience just roared. Once composed she was able to continue judging and giving constructive criticism with the rest of her peers.

     Meanwhile back at the Uplifting Minds talent show, of all the judges, R&B Singer UNE' remained serene like Ghandi, composed and totally supportive. His constant chant to all was a mellow-smooth "Keep doing what you're doing."

     It was an enjoyable afternoon. The acts were uniformly good however many groups got demerits from the judges for unsuitable attire and grabbing at their crotch, a move that many hip-hop artists are guilty of.

     I was personally impressed with Cash Rulz and Infectious.

     Celebrity judges included: Ernest Thomas, Luenell, Music Mgr. Carmela C. Martin, R&B Singer UNE', Vernon Neilly (Boosweet Records), Chris Denson (Chris D. Productions)Richard Jefferson, ESQ, EURweb's Lee Bailey among others.
