USHER’S CAMP NEW LOOK 'ENTERTAINMENT MENTORSHIP': Superstar performer gives back to the community.By EURtv Producer Daphne Bradford(July 18, 2008)
*From music to mentorship, Usher is a diversified entertainer and philanthropist.
The founder of the non profit Camp New Look, Usher is giving 150 at-risk youth from around the United States the opportunity to get an educated behind the scenes look at the entertainment and sports business. Each summer, Usher's Camp New Look offers a FREE two-week residential program for youths ages 13-17. The 2008 campers will travel to the ATL and reside on the campus of Georgia Tech University from July 14-27 where they will participate in a series of workshops on acting, dancing, music, video and sports. The camp specifically looks for applicants who show a family income below the poverty line, live in a single-parent household and have limited access to enrichment resources. I’m proud to say that two of my digital media (Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools) students from Locke High School, Travon Lewis and Joseph Sherlock, were among the 25 students representing Los Angeles. Camp New Look's objective is to use a young person's interest in the sports and entertainment field as a springboard to inspire them to dig deep, explore their interests and learn about career paths available in those multi-billion dollar industries.
