*“I went to a performing arts school and had family support,” Urban R&B artist Lloyd said when asked to what does he attribute to his success. “I also missed out.”

What he missed out on are things most people take for granted, like playing basketball with the neighborhood guys and spending time chilling with your girl. Lloyd has always been on a serious trip to becoming what he is now, a national performing artist.

On August 5th The Inc./Universal/Motown releases his third project, “Lessons in Love.”

The first single off the album, “Girls around the world,” features Lil’ Wayne and it has a hot hook in the background that sounds a lot like Montel Jordan. It is certainly a hot number on the album. How they could choose which one to release as a single I don’t know; the whole album has number one hits.

“I liked the person who liked it (his music),” Lloyd said of his first meeting with The Inc. founded and president, Irv Gotti. “I was 17 at the time and not able to take legal acts, at that age as an artist,” Lloyd said.

But in any case, he discussed with Irv his wanting to continue to develop as a song writer; being involved in what goes on his albums and the creative direction because he wanted to continue to work with his team of people.

“I had my own producers ... sound was big for me, I felt that no one was like me,” the young superstar said about why he wanted creative control.

Lloyd grew up in Atlanta and got his big break when Joyce Irby (Klymaxx) created the teen group N-Toon of which Lloyd was a member. He is heard on the group's 2000 Dreamworks release, “Toon Time.”

L.A. Reid, who had just become head of Def Jam, heard Lloyd’s music and introduced him to Irv Gotti. At the time he was committed to Magic Johnson’s label, but once he was free he signed with Gotti on The Inc/Universal/Motown.

In 2004 he released his debut “Southside,” executively produced by Joyce Irby and Irv Gotti and in 2007 he released “Street Love.” His new CD, “Lessons in Love,” also features Ladacris on “How we do it.’ Other great songs on the album include “Touched by an Angel” and “I’m Wit’ it.”

Lloyd just began a tour to promote the August 5th album release, which  started  July 23rd in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and will end August 21st in Detroit.
