"We were busy with purchasing the prettiest gowns, getting our hair done in these huge hoop dee dippity doo's of the day."

*I was literally running back and forth from one event to another and my next event was a pit stop at pretty Paige Hurd's (Everybody Hates Chris, CW, Beauty Shop) Sweet Sixteen party.

Her 'tween celebration was so special because it was a "giving back" gesture for children's cancer foundations.

I remember when I was young and my sister had her sweet sixteen, it was tres elaborate held at the Boston Sheraton Hotel (my husband might describe it as bougie). We were busy with purchasing the prettiest gowns, getting our hair done in these huge dippity doo's of the day (which didn't go right and I had to pull it down, wet it and cried like crazy because it was wavy instead of straight), going to the tailor for the fittings, rehearsals and finding a date (who my grandmother ended up cutting his face out of the photo…LOL…poor Dennis Marshall). How could she do that to the basketball star of Solomon Lewenberg Jr. High?  We didn't think about anyone but ourselves. That's usually how sweet sixteen parties go down and let's not leave out quincinearas too (sweet fifteen in the Hispanic world)! It's all about me, me, me, me, and me!!!

But, Paige Hurd, today's young teen decided to think about someone other than herself.  Motivated by her brother Pierce who is afflicted with down syndrome and cancer, this young actress requested that all guests purchase a raffle ticket for a mere $5.00 with 100% of these donations designated directly to her charity.

The event was held downtown LA at the Rec Center in an urban environment reminiscent of New York's SoHo district.  On the outside, it didn't look very appealing but on the inside of this huge studio, it unfolded into a kid's Willy Wonka type factory from the get go.  The first thing I saw (the kid in me) were cupcakes (yay!!! cake my favorite), candy, lollipops, tootsie pops and servers were handing out chicken on a stick). One two, three, gulp!  Oh, and let's not forget, my favorite Roscoes Chicken 'n Waffles.  Way cool (the kid really comes out).  I saw, Corde and Cordell (Snoop's kids), Luenell and her daughter Da'Nelle, Raz B, Small Change, TeQuan Richmond, Lil' Romeo, Irene Mama Stokes' grand baby girls (all teens now and I heard they formed a new singing group) and Parker McKenna Posey.

I was also introduced to a 'tween reporter Grace E. with Starzlife.com who handled her questions like a season pro. Her business card is so cute; it displays her name and title "Jr. Reporter" after it and then her mom's numbers beneath that.

I did not get a chance to interview Paige but I salute her for being so giving on her day.  What a great role model she is for kids her age.  I heard they partied till about 11:00 PM or so.   I had to dash though to another event, but perhaps it was a good thing because with every minute I was getting younger and younger. If I stayed till the end, I would be uttering waaaa...waaa lips locked to a Tootsie Roll.

I heard that Lil' B Sure and Quincy Brown (Al B. Sure's handsome boys) performed.
