Pastor Debra Morton gives you her ‘better half’ with her debut Gospel release

“When we recorded it, we knew it was truly of God,” Pastor Debra Morton said about her debut release, “Bishop Paul S. Morton Presents Pastor Debra B. Morton: My Better Half,” on Tehillah/Light Records. “I was really able to get it out, to bless the people.”

Pastor Morton is a “wonder woman” having accomplished so much before tackling the music industry. She was born and raised in New Orleans. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of New Orleans and in 1993 Debra Brown Morton was ordained as an elder. As an elder she was one of the first females to preach in the Baptist pulpit.

Morton is a nationally renowned motivational/inspirational speaker. She owns a spa in New Orleans and just launched a new fragrance line, Blessings in a Bottle, in June, 2007. Pastor Morton is the wife of Bishop Paul S. Morton and is Senior Pastor at Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church, one of the largest congregations in New Orleans, and is co-pastor at Changing a Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atlanta. Debra Morton is also an author of three books “Morning Coffee,” “The New Millennium Question: Where is the Lord god of Elijah?” and “Size Opportunity – It’s Your Season.”

This new music project, which she executively produced, features the Daughters of the Promise Mass Choir.

“My girlfriend called me and said, ‘Guest who is big at Wal-Mart?’” Pastor Morton said about how her friends are reacting to her new role as a national recording artist. “There was a big billboard there of me!”

The pastor said while recording she went through a 30-day fast to ensure the songs where coming from God.

“When you hear songs like Stevie Wonders’ ‘Ribbon in the Sky,’ you know that is of God, it doesn’t have to be Gospel. Some Gospel out there is not of God,” she pointed out to me.

The new album is uplifting and undoubtedly a praise and worship project which features contributions from Evangelist Sandra Riley, Beverly Crawford, Dr. Aretha Wilson and Pastor Nancy Wilson.
