PRINCE DENIES OPERA COVER OF 'PURPLE RAIN': Dentist who scored record deal with song unable to include it on debut album.(August 13, 2008)
*For singer Andrew Bain, the fat lady has sung – and her name is Prince. The dentist, an employee of England's National Health Service (NHS), gained local fame by performing dramatic opera versions of modern songs. His cover of Prince's 1984 hit "Purple Rain" received the most attention and landed him a record deal with Sony BMG. The song, however, will not be included on Bain's first album. According to Contact Music, Prince has refused to grant the budding artist permission to record the cover. "Without Purple Rain I wouldn't be where I am today," said Bain after learning he would not be able to use the song. "I struggled until I took a chance, mixed my operatic style with pop in 'Purple Rain,' and realized my dreams."
Andrew Bain Artists whose songs Bain will be covering on the record include Abba, Bryan Adams and David Bowie.
