ISAAC HAYES 'APPARENTLY DIED OF STROKE': Plus, family releases statement; memorial service set; Richard Roundtree reflects. A memorial service will be held in Cordova, Tennessee on Monday at Hope Presbyterian Church (8500 Walnut Grove) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. "Isaac Hayes helped pave the way for so many artists like myself," said the singer. "I also had the honor of meeting him several times – he was always so sweet like an older uncle."
*Camille Winbush, the actress who played Bernie Mac's niece on his Fox television series for five seasons, says his TV family is still trying to cope with the sudden loss of their patriarch. "The entire cast and I are still somewhat in shock about the whole thing," she told EUR's Lee Bailey Tuesday. "It hasn't quite set in for me that he's not with us anymore. But his spirit lives on through us, through the show and all of his work." The 18-year-old actress said she was at home in Los Angeles with her family when she learned of his passing on Aug. 9 from pneumonia. The call came the night before an official announcement was made to the media. "I was speechless, at the time, and I still sort of am," she said. "It hasn't hit me completely." Winbush, who was just 11-years-old when she was cast in "The Bernie Mac Show," remembers her late co-star as having one of the biggest hearts around. "He was so down to earth, considering who he is, and who he's worked with, and the amount of work he's done," said Winbush. "You'd think he'd be the typical Hollywood star, but he wasn't. He'd have lunch with you, would call on birthdays and remember all that kind of stuff. I appreciated that about him – that I could talk to him about anything and felt comfortable around him. He was like another uncle to me." Mac, who suffered from the inflammatory lung disease sarcoidosis, had been sick for a while during the five-year run of his television show, but had made a recovery. His condition reportedly went into remission in 2005. Winbush said she last saw him about a month-and-a-half ago on the set of his upcoming sitcom that was tentatively-titled "Starting Under." As previously reported, Mac starred as a large, opinionated guy who winds up divorced and living with (and working for) his introverted twenty-something son. "He invited me down to check it out," said Winbush of the budding Fox comedy. "I'm not sure what happened with it, but that was the last time I saw him." A public memorial will be held for Bernie Mac this weekend at House of Hope in Chicago. A private funeral has been scheduled for Friday, Aug. 15, at an undisclosed location. Winbush said the cast of "The Bernie Mac Show" will attend both services. Winbush, currently starring in the new ABC Family drama "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," asks fans to continue praying for Mac's family. "My heart goes out to them, and friends of him, everyone that knew him," she said. "He will be missed."
*On the heels of infidelity accusations leveled by actress LisaRaye against her husband, Turks & Caicos Premier Michael Misick, he announced late Tuesday that their marriage is over and done. “I am announcing that I am separated from LisaRaye McCoy-Misick," Premier Misick stated. *Samuel L. Jackson, Mary J. Blige and Star Jones were on hand at the Hamptons home of Def Jam chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid Saturday night to toast the 4-month-old marriage of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Reid "did it up," a witness told the New York Post. So much so, that neighbors reportedly called police at midnight to complain about the noise. Fox.com columnist Roger Freidman described the gathering as "the most elegant, laid-back event of the Hamptons season so far." Freidman wrote Tuesday: "I was talking to Mariah and Nick when the music got fired up, prompting Mariah to declare, 'I’m going to dance up a storm. It’s the one thing I do really well!' "And Mariah did, indeed, dance to DJ Cassidy. She twirled and dipped and had a fine time. Meanwhile, the Reids’ guests chowed down at various stations set up all over their backyard — on four different kinds of gourmet pizza, the best fried chicken and mac-and-cheese I’ve ever tasted and a selection of Greek treats." Other guests included Carey's manager, Benny Medina, Russell Simmons, Gayle King, Jessica Seinfeld, Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa, opera great Kathleen Battle, producer-director Lee Daniels; Universal Music Chief Doug Morris, Kerzner Resorts’ Jerry Inzerillo, and Gwyneth Paltrow. The newlyweds are spending the rest of the week at a farm in East Hampton they rented for $125,000, reports Page Six.
*Fox.com columnist Roger Friedman is reporting that actress LaTanya Richardson has been cast opposite Debra Winger in the upcoming Broadway revival of "Guess Who's coming to Dinner." "The word is that Winger will take the role made famous by Katharine Hepburn in the 1968 film of a matriarch whose daughter brings home a black doctor as her fiancée," Friedman wrote in his Fox411 column Tuesday. Jackson is tapped to play the family's maid Tillie Banks, who was portrayed in the 1968 film by Isabel Sanford. Friedman wrote: "Producers are said to be looking at TV’s Amanda Bynes as the couple’s daughter, played by Hepburn’s niece Katharine Houghton in the film. Still to be cast is the Sidney Poitier role, Dr. John Prentice, although I’m told Mekhi Phifer, of "ER," may be the final choice. If he’s not available, producers should try and get Anthony Mackie."
*Lil' Wayne released a statement to AllHipHop.com Tuesday squashing rumors that his 8-year-old daughter had been killed in a traffic accident on Sunday night. “It has come to my attention that there are recent reports circulating regarding my daughter. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who are genuinely concerned about Reginae and her safety,” Lil Wayne told AllHipHop.com. A number of Web sites reported Monday that Reginae Carter had been involved in a fatal car crash. Fans began posting condolences on Lil Wayne's MySpace page. “Please allow me to dispel any rumors or speculations and report that my daughter is alive, healthy and surrounded by family who care and love her dearly," Wayne said in his statement. "The rumors are completely false and unfounded; neither Reginae nor any other member of my family has been involved in any car accident. My family and I truly appreciate the concern and support shown to us.”
*For singer Andrew Bain, the fat lady has sung – and her name is Prince. The dentist, an employee of England's National Health Service (NHS), gained local fame by performing dramatic opera versions of modern songs. His cover of Prince's 1984 hit "Purple Rain" received the most attention and landed him a record deal with Sony BMG. The song, however, will not be included on Bain's first album. According to Contact Music, Prince has refused to grant the budding artist permission to record the cover.

Prisoner Omar Broadway smuggled a video camera into his cell and on the sly shot riots and prisoner abuse through his small window. The footage appears in "An Omar Broadway Film," which made its bow at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival and will be released in theaters in New York and L.A. for Oscar consideration, reports Variety. "HBO’s incredible enthusiasm is what sold us. It’s an opportunity to get it out to the biggest audience, namely in the urban areas," said co-director Douglas Tirola. HILLARY ADVISED TO CAST OBAMA AS 'UN-AMERICAN': Clinton's top campaign adviser suggested strategy in March 2007 memo. *A top campaign strategist for Hillary Clinton suggested in a 2007 memo that she counter the positive image of presidential rival Barack Obama's multicultural background by describing him as having questionable "roots to basic American values and culture." An article in the September issue of The Atlantic magazine says Clinton did not take Penn's advice. Obama's background — he grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii — was a "lack of American roots," Penn wrote in the memo. Also a weakness, he added, was the divisive rhetoric of Obama's controversial pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who cursed America during a sermon. "Won't a single tape of Wright going off on America with Obama sitting there be a game-ender?" Penn wrote in a March 30 memo. Penn's March 2007 memo also talked about the importance of a key voting bloc he called "the invisible Americans" — women and lower- and middle-class voters. Those groups helped Clinton beat Obama in key states before she quit the race in June.

Since moving to L.A. recently, the struggling screenwriter hasn't been able to sell any of his comedy scripts, plus, he's been dumped by his girlfriend, Karen (Via Osgood). As a result, he's lonely and practically broke with no plans for the night. In the middle of the day, the miserable 29 year-old sits in front of his computer soaking his woes in beer and weed while pleasuring himself by looking at naked pictures of his roommate's (Brian Maguire) cute girlfriend, Min (Kathleen Luong). Then, when the couple comes home unexpectedly and catches him in the act, she is flattered, but Jacob is infuriated. The latter insists that Wilson ought to find his own woman, and suggests that it's not even too late to find some companionship for New Year's Eve. So, he places a personal ad on Craig's List online, and soon sets up a 4 PM rendezvous with Vivian (Sara Simmonds), an inscrutable temptress who inaccurately describes herself as a 300 lb. dominatrix. When they meet at a restaurant, it's lust at first sight for Wilson, since she looks a whole lot better than billed. Still, because he's only one of a number of strangers she's invited there for a speed date, he has to wait for her to finish auditioning his competition. And even after she settles on Wilson, it's not exactly smooth sailing, as this girl has a lot of skeletons in her closet. First, the attractive weirdo announces that she's only 17, then insists that they pray together, before then informing him that, "This isn't get laid for free night." Although it's obvious Wilson won't be by himself this New Year's Eve, as you might guess, their ensuing date turns out to be anything but predictable. So unfolds In Search of a Midnight Kiss, an offbeat romantic comedy written and directed by Alex Holdridge. Shot entirely in black and white, this endearing, low budget indie offers as compelling a combination of character development, credible dialogue and surprising plot twists as you're likely to encounter between now and New Year's Eve. A sobering cinematic treat which puts a whole new spin on Auld Lang Syne! Excellent (4 stars) To see a trailer for In Search of a Midnight Kiss, visit:
"There are two big forces at work, external and internal. We have very little control over external forces... (such as tornados, earthquakes, floods, disasters, illness and pain.) What really matters is the internal force. How do I respond to those disasters? Over that I have complete control." — Leo Buscaglia
