FAMILY OF TIMOTHY WRIGHT SEEKS DONATIONS: Critically injured Grammy nominated Gospel singer in need of help over medical costs.(August 13, 2008)
The Associated Press (AP) reports that the family of Grammy nominated Gospel singer Rev. Timothy Wright, who was critically injured in a car crash that killed his wife and grandson, is asking for donations to cover medical cost.
Wright has exhausted his health insurance coverage and could require as much as $500,000 to cover medical cost over the next several months, according to Laurie Scheider, a spokeswoman for Wright’s family. Rev. Wright, 61, is currently undergoing rehabilitation. The car crash happened on July 4 when he was returning from Detroit after promoting an autobiography. His wife, Pastor Betty, 58, and their 14 year-old grandson D.J. were killed. The driver of the other car John Pick, 44, was also killed. The reverend suffered a severe C4 spinal cord injury and has been on a respirator since the accident, but can be removed for an hour each day, this allows him to talk. He can move his neck and has feeling in his upper arms and shoulders. Wright founded Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights. He was nominated for a Grammy award in 1994.
