BARACK OBAMA TO PICK VEEP BY SATURDAY: Candidate's senior advisor says pair will make joint appearance in Illinois.

*The Associated Press reported late Tuesday that Barack Obama will announce his running mate by Saturday, when the senator and his choice for vice president are scheduled to make a joint appearance.

Speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity, a senior Obama adviser confirmed that the pair will appear in front of the former state Capitol in Illinois where Abraham Lincoln once served. The last time Obama appeared there, he announced he was running for president.

As previously reported, Obama's campaign said the announcement will come in a cell phone text message to supporters first.
