BET DETAILS OBAMA-CONVENTION COVERAGE: Network to go live from Denver each night; plus offer extended news briefs and more.LA Times article asks if BET and TV One's coverage can be impartial(August 25, 2008)
*BET Networks announced it will offer live nightly coverage of the Democratic National Convention, with broadcasts tonight through Aug. 28, as well as other special programming across multiple platforms. Also, four BET News specials will explore key issues of the presidential election. These programs will join hours of on-air programming on BET and BET J, live coverage, daily news specials, public service announcements, and extended news briefs, in addition to extensive coverage online and on BET On Blast, the network's broadband channel. In related news, Greg Braxton of the Los Angeles Times wrote a piece in Saturday's paper titled "TV One and BET deny they're Obama cheerleaders." The article notes the unprecedented coverage of the Democratic National Convention by both BET and TV One and seeks to find out just how unbiased the reporting seeks to be. "We've gotten folks who can discuss these issues and what's happening from all sides of the coin," Robert Branch, TV One's director of programming and production, told the Times.
