AARP, one of the world's largest member organizations with over 39 million members, and the leading advocacy organization for people 50-plus, will hold a special event to celebrate 50 years in existence.

The event will be Thursday, September 4 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the National Mall/Lincoln Memorial, Washington, DC

A long list of notables is expected to come out in support; Grammy Award winning Gospel/R&B singer Patti Austin; Elder Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., who will read an excerpt from her father's "I have a dream" speech; Leeza Gibbons, American talk show host (master of ceremonies for the AARP's 50th Anniversary); Grammy Award winning country music singer Wynonna Judd; Oscar Award winning actress Sally Field, and second astronaut to set foot on the moon, Glenn Pearson.

It is the culmination of a year-long celebration called "Generations Connecting for Change," during which AARP staff, volunteers, community leaders, members and their families have come together at anniversary events across major U.S. cities and connected in order to change, learn and celebrate.
