'A GOOD DAY TO BE BLACK AND SEXY': Independent film premieres today.(December 5, 2008)
*Since it opens today, you could say Friday is "A Good Day To Be Black And Sexy." That's our sorta clever/twisted way of hipping you to a new film from Magnolia Pictures and director Dennis Dortch.
The movie was an official selection at both the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and the AFI Film Festival. Critis say it picks up where Spike Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It” left off. From the opening sequence, the needle drops on this collection of six stories spinning the sexual politics and intimacies between black men and women, played out in deftly arranged vignettes on black love, sex and reciprocity. The interconnected stories unfold over a single day in Los Angeles. Each themed story is irreverent and unconventional, with sensual chapters entitled: “Reciprocity,” “Reprise,” “American Boyfriend,” “Her Man,” and “Tonight.” "A Good Day To Be Black And Sexy" is daring in its choices, carefully depicting intimacy in black relationships and exploring new ground in storytelling.
