KESHIA CHANTE TO PLAY AALIYAH IN BIOPIC?; Reports have Canadian R&B singer in film about late star's life.
*Canada's National Post newspaper reported Friday that local R&B star Keshia Chante, 20, has been cast as Aaliyah in an upcoming film about the late singer's life.
The article from writer Michelle Olsen does not mention what studio is behind the alleged project, but reports that the film is due for release sometime next year:
Chante, a Juno-winner, has starred as herself in "Cat's Cradle," a Canadian indie movie filmed in Edmonton, and had a guest spot on "Da Kink in my Hair," a Canadian TV series set in a black hair salon. [Scroll down to watch clips of her guest appearance.]
Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001, sold 32 million albums worldwide and was nominated for five Grammys.
