Musical sensation, Prince has a younger sister named Tyka Nelson who recently released her gospel project, "A Brand New Me." "It's my first gospel CD," explained Tyka. "The first one where I did everything - the music, wrote all the songs. Every song is about God. It's all about Jesus. It's a Gospel CD, everything leads back to God." "All the people [about whom she sings] are bits and pieces of me. People who start out in the beginning of the music have problems. They're in clubs, they're having sex with married men, but at the end they find that nothing can give them that type of joy except God," she said. Although Tyka attends a Pentecostal church, she stated, "I'm not really any religion. I still study with Jehovah's Witnesses, so I say I'm Apostolic Pentecostal Jehovah's Witness Seventh-Day Adventist Jew." With so many changes in the Gospel industry of late, one might wonder how a person who professes such a "curious" spiritual pedigree will be accepted. The release of Tyka's new CD begs the question of whether or not one needs to be a Christian in order to sing Gospel. While many would regard Gospel as merely musical genre and performance, others contend that Gospel Music is as much a testimony as it is another musical expression. It will be interesting to see how the church community and Gospel industry responds to this project. To hear the song, log on to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v-_9E46DVQ
