Interface Recording artist Micah Stampley will be joining the throngs of Americans planning to travel to Washington, DC to lend his support to several upcoming Inaugural events.
Stampley will begin the Inaugural weekend with an interview on National Public Radio's (NPR) "Weekend Edition Sunday" airing on Sunday, January 18. Later that day, the Houston-based artist will perform a special rendition of the Sam Cooke classic, "A Change Gonna Come" at the Souls of My Sisters event on Capitol Hill. Stampley will wrap-up the day with a special performance at the African American Church Inaugural Ball, honoring the 25 extraordinary leaders being recognized with the "Keepers of the Flame" Award. The event will bring together leaders of African American Churches from across the U.S. to mark the Inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama and to honor the great history, struggles, and untiring strength of the African American community, and the great commitment of the African American church to the future. On the morning of Monday, January 19, Stampley will join the Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, with a performance at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast. Later that evening, he will attend The Inaugural "Dream" Gala at the historic estate of the very first President of The United States, George Washington in historic Mount Vernon, Virginia. Stampley released his live CD, “Ransomed” in stores this past November. The16-track project, produced by 10-time GRAMMY® Award Winner Kevin Bond, showcases the widely-acclaimed artists' staggering vocal power and sensitivity. Stampley's debut CD, “The Songbook of Micah,” (Dexterity Sounds/EMI Gospel) which hit the music charts as the second highest debut for a Male Gospel Artist in Billboard history, garnered him success including a Billboard magazine critic's pick as "one of Top 10 Gospel music artists of 2005" and the online giant, AOL Black Voices' stamp as one of The Top 11 Gospel Geniuses of 2005.
