BE BE WINANS UPDATE: Gospel singer responds to reports of domestic assault charge.(March 13, 2009)
Contempory gospel singer Be Be Winans, has responded to publised reports of him being arrested on a domestic assault charge by his former wife. In a news release from his press agent, Patti Webster of W&W PR, he made this comment: "To be accused of these allegations, which arose out of a child custody right dispute and my desire to spend time with our children as court ordered, is nothing less than heart wrenching. Since I choose to say nothing negative about my children’s mother, I will make no comment other than to say the allegations are inconsistent with my character and the foundation upon which I was raised and I am prayerful that the matter is straightened out very soon for the sake of our children." Here's what we previously reported: Gospel singer BeBe Winans was booked yesterday on a domestic assault rap for allegedly pushing his ex-wife to the ground during an argument last month, reports TheSmokingGun.com. According to a court filing, the 46-year-old Winans, and his former spouse, got into a "verbal altercation" on February 13 about "custody issues dealing with their children." At the time, Winans was at his ex-wife Debra's Nashville home, where he had driven to pick up his children. "The victim was telling the defendant of issues with the children when he became irate. The defendant then pushed the victim to the ground. Winans, was arrested yesterday on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge," the court filings say. Winans was briefly held at the Davidson County jail before posting $1000 bond. Winans, best known for albums recorded with his sister CeCe, has won four Grammy awards.
