IS RIHANNA EVEN LISTENING TO OPRAH? TYRA?: Singer's mentor says their advice on domestic abuse isn't helping.(March 20, 2009)
*Producer Evan Rogers, the music mogul who discovered pop star Rihanna, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about all of the unsolicited advice she has received from celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and Tyra Banks regarding her domestic dispute with Chris Brown. Rogers said the celebrities who have publicly urged Rihanna to break off her romance with Brown, aren't helping the "Umbrella" singer, who had reconciled with her boyfriend after the alleged beating. "It turns up the heat in terms of it seeming like the whole world is telling her what to do," said Rogers. "At the end of the day, people forget that, at 21, your perspective is very different. These kinds of things can happen to anyone, whether you're a celebrity or not. "She's very aware of everything that's going on. Just like anyone else, she watches TV, she goes online. And I think that it matters to her, but there's a line that she walks between being human and caring when you hear these kinds of things, and separating your personal life from your professional life. "She's doing the best she can and this is a very difficult time that she's going through right now, and she's going to learn a lot from it. I think that most people still see her as the victim in this situation. You'll always have a lot of haters who talk negatively about artists all day long on the Internet. But I think that when the dust settles, she's going to be fine." In other Rihanna news, the rented black SUV that carried her from Los Angeles nightspot Les Deux Wednesday night was pulled over by LAPD officers for having missing front tags. "It was a rented limo that didn't have a license plate," an LAPD spokesman told E! News. "Rihanna wasn't even driving—it's not her car. This happens to people all the time." The car drew the attention of nearby cops after her chauffeur sped off in the wrong direction through a red light to evade a horde of paparazzi. While Rihanna waited patiently in the backseat, the driver, who was not identified, was issued a ticket and allowed to go on his way.
