*CW's series "The Game" may extend from a half-hour comedy to an hourlong dramedy next season in order to save it from being cancelled.

The network expects to complete its exit from the half-hour comedy genre at the end of this season, and "Game" creator/executive producer Mara Brock Akil, according to Reuters, is willing to stretch the show another half hour in an attempt to keep it in the lineup.

"The Game," one of the network's two remaining comedies, was spun off from "Girlfriends" and has averaged 1.9 million viewers in its Friday night timeslot with CW's other sitcom, "Everybody Hates Chris.

According to Reuters, it's not likely that the network would keep the three-year-old "Game," because a drama version wouldn't mesh well with CW's other dramas, which are skewing younger and far less urban, Plus, a format switch after three seasons would also complicate a potential syndication run of the show.
