KATHLEEN BRADLEY: OUT OF 'PRICE' RANGE: Former 'Barker Beauty' prepping tell-all.
Though Bradley did the gig for ten years (1990-2000), among the longest tenure of any of the others, she’s more than just one of Barker’s Beauties.
She's a singer, dancer (she was part of the short-lived disco group The Love Machine), and is currently enjoying life; playing golf in support of non-profit organizations; and being a grandmother.
“I am also writing my book, ‘Backstage at the Price is Right: Memoirs of a Barker’s Beauty,’” Bradley added.
EUR’s Lee Bailey caught up with Bradley recently at a charity event for the Community Health Alliance of Pasadena (CHAP), and she shared just a tease of the information and behind-the-scenes stories in her forthcoming book.
“Since I was there ten years, I have a lot of very intriguing and important things to tell that Bob (Barker) has somehow overlooked in his book,” Bradley said. “Bob just refuses to tell the real truth, the whole truth.”
Bradley, 58, referred to the former "Price Is Right" host’s litigation troubles, which started with a suit filed by former Barker Beauty, and one of the most recognized models, Dian Parkinson. Parkinson left the show in 1993 and sued Barker for sexual harassment. Then, in 1995, redheaded fave Holly Hallstrom was fired from the show. She filed a wrongful termination suit alleging she was released because of a 14-pound weight gain, but Hallstrom later said she was fired because she would not support Barker in the case against him by Parkinson.
“Dian Parkinson and I were very tight friends when I got on the show and there was a lot of dissention between Dian and Holly,” Bradley revealed. “So, [Parkinson] befriended me and she told me lots of things. We were glad that he and Dian were having a good time, and we were happy Bob was happy.”
However, shortly after being subpoenaed to give testimony in the Hallstrom trials, Bradley, along with co-model Janice Pennington, were released in October 2000.
“Things did turn a little sour at some point. It was kind of downhill from there. But the book is talking about the ten years I was there, and the time when [Producer, Marc] Goodson was still alive. It was some wonderful and great times being the first black model on the show.”
Actually, Bradley's a little off. She was not the show’s first black model. According to Wikipedia, that title belongs to Harriet who subbed on the show upon its pre-Barker revival with host Dennis James in 1972. Bradley, was, however the show’s first permanent African American model when she joined the cast almost 20 years later.
“It makes me feel good that I was able to open the doors for a lot of other young ladies,” Bradley said.
Bradley said that she’s met one of her successors, Claudia Jordan, who replaced her when she left in 2000. And added that Jordan is also one of the Barker Beauties suing the former host.
“The list is long, but I’m not suing him, I’m exposing everything, though,” she said of the forthcoming book. “I ain’t holding back.”
