TUCKER, PALMER TO HOST BRITTIANA RUN/WALK: Annual fundraiser to take place May 30 in Los Angeles.(May 29, 2009)
*Join Chris Tucker and Keke Palmer in the race against childhood cancer at the 4th annual Brittiana "Smile For Life" 5k Run/Walk, to take place May 30 in Los Angeles at Pacific Palisades High School.
The event will include family fun, food, prizes, entertainment and celebrity appearances. In 2004 at the age of 10, Brittiana Henderson was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma, (a rare form of bone cancer) of which she successfully fought and went into remission for 14 months. However, in March 2006, Brittiana was diagnosed with Leukemia, which transpired from her previous cancer treatment. During her ordeal, “Britt” spent countless hours at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, where she would always visit with other children. She painfully underwent chemotherapy and partial knee replacement surgery, remaining optimistic about her own struggle all the while. In the midst of her battle, she was able to launch BrittiCares International, which supports uplifting programs that focus on improving the quality of life for children battling for a chance at life. She was able to attend the 1st annual Brittiana "Smile For Life" 5k Run/Walk in 2006, but her battle with cancer came to an end January 31, 2007. Proceeds from the event go toward BrittiCares Events run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Before the race begins, an opening ceremony will take place, including a song, dance and dedication lap with all patients, survivors and Angelinos that have been affected by cancer. Other celebrity guests scheduled to appear include Derek Strong of Strong Racing, NFL's Chester Pitts, NBA's Bryon Russell and Miss Black California, Jolandra Davis. Teen celebrities lending their support include Chelsea Tavares, Tyler Williams of "Everybody Hates Chris," Kofi Siriboe of "The Longshots," Kwame Boateng of "Not Easily Broken" and Kwesi Boakye of "I Can Do Bad All By Myself."
