MIJAC SHOWS DROWNING IN SWAROVSKI CRYSTALS: Jewelry firm says singer is using 300,000 pieces in his comeback concerts.(June 25, 2009)
*Michael Jackson's stage costumes and set will be studded with £1 million worth of Swarovski crystals, according to Contact Music.
The singer, whose 50-night This Is It residency at London's O2 arena begins next month, is adding 300,000 of the gems – in 53 shapes, 40 sizes and 27 colors – to his costumes and to the stage set. Nadja Swarovski, Vice President of Swarovski Crystal Business, commented: "As the King of Pop it is only natural for him to be crowned in crystal." Choreographer Kenny Ortega - who is working with the 50-year-old star to put together the shows - said the partnership with the jewelry firm had "inspired our fashion and scenic elements to a new state of the art." As previously reported, fans who registered for a ticket lottery on Jackson's Web site have another chance to see the singer as extra tickets have been made available. President of AEG Live Randy Phillips said: "Since we originally put tickets on sale prior to designing the stage show, we were quite conservative with the arena seating in order to accommodate the size of this technologically advanced production. "Now that Michael and Kenny are very advanced in the creative process we are able to offer more tickets to the general public."
