TV ONE SCHEDULES 'FOREVER MICHAEL WEEK': Programming starts Sunday; includes new documentary.(July 21, 2009)
*Beginning Sunday July 26 at 8 p.m. ET, TV One presents “Forever Michael Week,” a seven-day tribute to the King of Pop, including: a new documentary entitled "The Michael Jackson Story."
The week will also include "The Jacksons: An American Dream" miniseries; and "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration," the concert that commemorates his 30 years as a solo performer. Originally scheduled to celebrate the kickoff of Michael Jackson’s highly anticipated London concerts, the special programming will now serve as a tribute to the music icon and his legendary career. Leading off the week will be "The Michael Jackson Story", premiering on Sunday, July 26 at 8 p.m., and repeating at 11 p.m. (all times ET). The documentary presents the story of Jackson’s life and his music using personal family movies and other exclusive archives, along with original interviews. The film chronicles his career from his days as a shy young child in Indiana, through his last days as a closeted icon. The program also includes extensive music and performance clips, as well as interviews with his mother Katherine Jackson; his brother Jermaine; his sister LaToya; Gladys Knight, who discovered the Jackson family; Suzanne De Passe, the Motown executive who nurtured him; Smokey Robinson, who served as a mentor to young Michael at Motown; plus many of the professionals he worked closely with over the years. The rest of the week’s lineup includes: • Monday, July 27 at 9 p.m. to midnight: "The Jacksons: An American Dream" Part 1, starring Angela Bassett, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Holly Robinson-Peete, Terrence Howard, Billy Dee Williams and Jermaine Jackson II. Encore airing at midnight. • Tuesday, July 28 at 9 p.m. to midnight: "The Jacksons: An American Dream" Part 2. Encore airing at midnight. • Wednesday, July 29 at 9 p.m.: "The Michael Jackson Story" Encore airing at midnight. • Thursday, July 30 at 9 p.m. – "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration" - an all-star concert salute to the "King of Pop." Taped at New York's Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7 and 10, 2001, this special was Michael Jackson's first live U.S. performance in more than a decade and the first reunion with his brothers in 17 years. Guests and performers included Destiny's Child, Whitney Houston, Usher, 'N Sync, 98 Degrees, James Ingram, Gloria Estefan, Mya, Chris Tucker, Samuel L. Jackson, Liza Minnelli and a host of others.
