'REAL ATL HOUSEWIVES' USHER IN NEW SEASON WITH DRAMA-FILLED PREMIERE PARTY: Atlanta's W hotel hosts Bravo ladies' season opener sneak preview. (Video)Drama!! Scroll down to watch sneak peeks of Sheree going off on her gay event planner(July 30, 2009)
*If the Premiere party for the second season of 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta' held at Atlanta's W Hotel in Buckhead, Tuesday was any indication of what the new season will deliver, "let's get ready to rumble!" From beginning to end, there was drama to be had at the well-attended affair, boasting guests such as Tameka “Tiny” Cottle and Antonia “Toya” Carter from BET's “Tiny & Toya,” producer Jazze Pha, Q from 112 and plenty of fans and media. (Invited guests included Angie Stone, T-Boz and Mike Vick, but they apparently had other business to tend to.) Tiny kicked it off by being bummed because she lost her Blackberry (announcements for its return were made all night), so she answered 'no comment, I just want my blackberry,' to every question posed to her when I attempted to interview her about her new show, with Toya following suit with, 'I've got nothing to say...you seen her blackberry?" On to the next celeb... An attempt was made to get comments from honoray Housewife, Dwight Eubanks, aka NeNe's fabulous advisor, but he was fixated on whether or not Tiny and Toya were seated in the VIP section before he was allowed to sit. 'I'm outta here if these b**tches are seated before I am!' he ranted. He stormed off to keep a watchful eye on the two. On to the next 'celeb'... By this time, the housewives of the hour began arriving to the red carpet. All were present and accounted for, NeNe Leakes, Kim Zolciak, Lisa Wu Hartwell, and newest housewife...er...engaged housewife hopeful, Kandi Burruss (formerly of Xscape), each looking stunningly camera ready, except for Sheree Whitfield, who ultimately arrived fashionably (arguable, due to her new 'shocked out' do) late. Media pandemonium ensued. The ladies were escorted to the green room for interviews, which is where the 'real' fun began. Watching them cheese for the cameras, snuggle up for group photos and compliment one another was quite the spectacle when, shortly thereafter, they gave candid interviews about their on and off-screen relationships. NeNe, not mincing words about her role on the show and relationships with her cast mates, offered, "I have what I call 'camera balls'...when the cameras come on, my balls drop down. They portrayed me accurately. Everything you see is all me! There was a little bit of tension between me and Khandi because I don't know her. I'm one of the original housewives, so if you're coming to my house you gotta show respect. I Know how to handle my business, though. I'm not gonna let anyone stand between my dollars. So, I can go anywhere with these girls and we'll be just fine. I work with a lot of people I don't like, I just do what I gotta do." Zolciak counters with, "I think we've all learned lessons...some friendships grow and some end indefinitely...how am I the center of the drama always? I don't understand it...I bonded with Kandi throughout this season and she's amazing and I also have the utmost respect for Lisa, after a few bumps in the road, though. These firecracker bitches on this show with strong personalities make us different and when you have that, you're gonna have drama and chaos...and you just might find out who big papa is this season." Kandi adds her two cents: "This stuff is crazy for me...it's hard for me to go from going crazy on somebody one minute then be back cool the next, but being from a girl group, I kinda understand." As the girls were wrapping up, the green room shook a little, accompanied by a loud 'boom!' We all run back out to the party area to see what the commotion is and two large gents (presumably football players) are going at it, with one man down and the other reaching for a drink to throw. In the process of it being snatched from his hand, I get doused and am now wearing someone's $11 martini. The two contenders were escorted out, I was all wet and the party went on. After a little mingling around and dodging photo op after photo op, mostly to dry myself off, the premiere was cued to be shown. However, it took at least another thirty minutes to get the, by this time, 'happy' guests to move from in front of the projector screen. Everyone from the organizers to NeNe's husband to the DJ shouted for them to move, but they stood, and talked, and stood, and talked, till the DJ had to have a School Daze 'I'm tired of you Niggas' moment and shouted 'Shiiiiit!' into the mic. A little order was restored. I caught the first 15 minutes of the episode, which began with the fabulous Eubanks hilariously critiquing NeNe's new home furnishings and catching you up with where the last season ended. All things considered, the hype won't be dying down any time soon; Bravo has another ratings juggernaut on its hands. Catch the season two debut at 10 p.m. tonight on Bravo.
