BLACK HISTORY Aug. 21, Nat Turner, a brilliant minister, led the first slave revolt of magnitude in Southampton County, Virginia. Some 60 whites were killed before his capture on October 30. Aug. 22, 1791: Mathematician Benjamin Banneker, who served on the commission which surveyed the District of Columbia, issued his first annual almanac. Aug. 23, 1861: James Stone, a light skinned fugitive slave passing for white, enlisted in the First Fight Artillery of Ohio.
