'DWTS' TO HONOR MIJAC ON TUESDAY SHOW: Several of the professional dancers have choreographed a routine to three of his iconic songs.(October 16, 2009)
*"Dancing With the Stars" will present a special dance tribute to Michael Jackson during next week's live results show (Oct. 20), ABC announced.
The show’s professional dancers have been busy working on a routine to three of Jackson’s most iconic songs, according to executive producer Conrad Green. He's keeping the tunes a secret. “A lot of our dancers were very upset when he died. He was an inspiration to them and they wanted to do something fitting to honor him,” Green told People.com. Jackson’s music has been featured “like 13 or 14 times during the course of the show,” he says. “This is quite personal for a lot of our dancers and our production.” The number will be choreographed by several of the "DWTS" pros, including Mark Ballas, Derek Hough, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke, who earned her first Emmy nomination for choreography for season 2's routine with celebrity partner Drew Lachey to Jackson's "Thriller."
