HIGHLIGHTS FROM NY TIMES PIECE ON OBAMA MARRIAGE: Newspaper posts entire Nov. 1 cover story on its Web site.

*President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle sat down to discuss their union in the New York Times Magazine's November 1st cover story "The First Marriage," by Washington correspondent Jodi Kantor.

 Among the highlights:

• President Obama's wedding ring is an intricate Indonesian gold design.
• Mrs. Obama is the second woman he took home to meet his family in Hawaii
• A friend described Michelle's warmth by saying "She is really Bill, and he is really Hillary."
• Kantor reports that "friends who visit the White House describe occasionally turning corners to find the first couple mid-embrace."
• The president reads aloud with his children in the evenings, and he and Sasha are currently reading "The Life Of Pi."
• Mrs. Obama won't allow the girls to have cell phones.
• Weekend activities include movies, Scrabble games, and children's talent shows.
• Relatives will take Sasha and Malia to the bookstore or multiplex, since their parents can't move around freely.
• The family recently finished redecorating the White House. The first lady requested an outdoor rocking chair for her husband to read in.

On the downside to "date nights":

"I would say the one time during our stay here in the White House so far that has. . . ." He paused so long in choosing his words that Michelle Obama, sitting alongside him, prompted him. "Has what?"
       "Annoyed me," the president answered.
"Don't say it!" the first lady mock-warned. "Uh-oh."
"Was when I took Michelle to New York and people made it into a political issue," he continued, recalling the evening last spring when they flew to New York for dinner and a show, eliciting Republican gibes for spending federal money on their own entertainment.

On whether they ever considered divorce:

"That's overreading it," the president said. "But I wouldn't gloss over the fact that that was a tough time for us."
Did you ever seek counseling? Kantor asked.
The first lady looked solemnly at the president. He said: "You know, I mean, I think that it was important for us to work this through. . . .
There was no point where I was fearful for our marriage. There were points in time where I was fearful that Michelle just really didn't -- that she would be unhappy."

On what they're saying when they're photographed whispering to each other:

In September, as they waited to greet a long, slow procession of foreign dignitaries and their spouses at the Group of 20 Summit in Pittsburgh, the first lady whispered in her husband's ear about things "that I probably shouldn't repeat," he said.
"She can puncture the balloon of this," he added, making him feel like the same person he was 5 or 10 years ago.

'THIS IS IT' - $20.1 MILLION WORLDWIDE AND COUNTING: Jackson's movie tops box office; sets Wednesday record.

*As expected, "Michael Jackson's This Is It" has taken over the box office with a Wednesday total of $7.4 million in the U.S. and $12.7 million overseas -- a worldwide sum of $20.1 million on its first full day in theaters.

Distributor Sony said the $7.4 million domestic haul is the best ever for a movie on a Wednesday in October, reports the AP. "This Is It" was easily the No. 1 film domestically, coming in ahead of the $1.5 million gross for "Paranormal Activity," last weekend's top box-office earner.

Sony said it expected equally big numbers for the film today and Sunday, though Saturday may leave a hole in the overall box office, falling on Halloween, when audiences typically are preoccupied with parties and trick-or-treating.

According to the Associated Press, "This Is It's" one day total puts it just behind the $8.6 million domestic haul of "U2: Rattle and Hum" on the list of top-grossing music documentaries. By this weekend, "This Is It" is likely to shoot past such films as "Madonna: Truth or Dare" ($15 million) and "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" ($19.2 million) to become the No. 2 draw all-time on the music-documentary chart. The No. 1 music documentary is "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert,"
which had a $31.1 million opening weekend last year and took in $65.3 million over its entire theatrical run.

Among the totals from other countries, "This Is It" brought in $1.9 million in Great Britain, $1.4 million France, $1.2 million in Japan and
$1.1 million in Germany. The film debuted in 99 countries Wednesday and expanded to 10 more Thursday.

KANDI BURRUSS DENIES PREGNANCY RUMORS: Atlanta Housewife says, 'Did I gain weight to make people think that?'

*Singer/songwriter Kandi Burruss can't quite understand how a rumor insisting she is pregnant with her late ex-fiancé's child can just pop up on the blogosphere out of nowhere and spread around like wildfire.

"That is such bull! Do people get up every morning and just decide to make up stories and lies? I'm like, Did I gain weight to make people think that? I don't understand it," Burruss told Essence.com.

"It's just hilarious how people will believe everything they read," she continued. "Someone called me the other day and I didn't give any more thought to the rumor because I'm like who would believe that, especially if the news didn't come directly from me? So for the record, I am not pregnant with A.J. Jewell's child. I'm not pregnant with anybody's child."

Last night, the Grammy winner appeared on part one of Bravo's two-part reunion show for "The Real Housewives of Atlanta."

SHAQ APPLIES FOR DEPUTY GIG IN CLEVELAND: NBA star still wants to keep one foot in law enforcement.

*Now that he's in Ohio playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, NBA star Shaquille O'Neal is continuing his off-the-court endeavors in law enforcement via a local gig with the Cuyahoga County sheriff's office.

The athlete has applied to become a special deputy, which gives him rights to carry a gun and make arrests but not be a paid, formal employee, according to sheriff's office spokesman John O'Brien.

The sheriff has forwarded the application to the state agency that must consider the request to deputize O'Neal. State attorney general's spokeswoman Holly Hollingsworth says that if approved, O'Neal would need 36 hours of police training and would have to take the Ohio police exam.

O'Neal previously served roles with law enforcement agencies in Arizona, Virginia and Florida.

MJ FILM NOW HAS OSCAR BUZZ: AP breaks down the likelihood of 'This Is It' receiving a nomination for Best Picture.

*The Associated Press's Sandy Cohen asks the question, "Could 'Michael Jackson's This Is It' win an Oscar?" citing the rousing praise from critics who say the film restores Jackson's reputation as a world-class entertainer.

The movie comes too late in the year to be considered for a documentary Oscar, but the film about the late King of Pop's preparations for a series of comeback concerts could qualify for other Hollywood honors, including the Academy Award for best picture.

With the best-picture slate expanded to 10 films this year rather than the traditional five, "This Is It" could find itself among the contenders, according to Variety's  executive editor Steven Gaydos.

To qualify, the film must complete a seven-day run in Los Angeles County and filmmakers would need to "submit the proper paperwork," said Leslie Unger, spokeswoman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which puts on the Oscars. The movie could also be considered in other categories such as sound, she said.

Sony, which paid $60 million for the global film rights, plans to keep "This Is It" in theaters for just over two weeks. The studio did not respond to an e-mail from Cohen seeking comment about whether it planned to submit the film in any of the Oscar categories.

CHILD SUPPORT HEARING SCHEDULED FOR CONRAD MURRAY: Doc investigated in MJ's death over payments for son.

*Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray, currently at the root of an investigation into the King of Pop's death, has been given a Nov. 16 court date for his ongoing child support case in Las Vegas.

Clark County District Attorney David Roger filed a document Tuesday urging a judge to deny a request from Murray's lawyer to let him make only minimal payments on more than $14,000 that Roger says Murray owes a California woman and her son.

A rep for David Roger said Wednesday that no warrant will be issued for Murray pending his Family Court hearing, according to the Associated Press.

Aaron says Murray had to close his medical practice and move due to threats following Jackson's death June 25. Los Angeles police are focusing a homicide investigation on Murray after he told investigators he gave Jackson a powerful anesthetic before he died.

STING SAYS OBAMA WAS 'SENT FROM GOD': Musician believes he's the best person to handle the world's 'mess.'

*In an interview with the AP Wednesday, singer/songwriter Sting suggested that President Barack Obama was brought forth through divine means specifically to conquer the world's problems.

"In many ways, he's sent from God," joked the former Police frontman, "because the world's a mess."

Sting said he spent some time with Obama and "found him to be very genuine, very present, clearly super-smart, and exactly what we need in the world."

"I can't think of anyone better qualified because of his background, his education, particularly in regard to Islam," he said.

The British singer, who released the seasonal album "On A Winter's Night" this week, said he's fascinated by American politics, Obama, and also by Obama's opponents on the right.

"It's aggressive and violent and full of fear," he said of the backlash against Obama. "They don't want change, they want things to feel the same because they feel safe there."

Sting, 58, said he's hopeful that the world's problems can be dealt with, but is frustrated that "we seem to be living in a currency of medieval ideas."

"My hope is that we can start talking about real issues and not caring about whether God cares about your hemline or your color," he said.
"We are here to evolve as one family, and we can't be separate anymore."

'TRAUMA' DRAMA FOR DEREK LUKE: NBC won't pick up additional episodes beyond original 13.

*NBC's big hope to replace "ER" has been placed on life support.

The network has decided not to order any additional episodes of its new big-budget action medical series "Trauma," which featured Derek Luke in the role of a paramedic.

Ratings for the drama have stalled since its season premiere, but it showed a small ratings uptick this week against CBS repeats, prompting the network to book the series for three more weeks.

"Trauma" will now finish production on its original 13-episode order before unplugging the machine, so to speak.

MIJAC AMONG FORBES' 'RICHEST DEAD CELEBS': Singer has earned more money in four months than Elvis and Lennon for the entire year.

*Michael Jackson is the third highest earning dead celebrity in the past year, despite having been deceased for only four months.

According to Forbes magazine, MJ earned $90 million this year, beating long-dead celebrities Elvis Presley (No. 4 with $55 million), John Lennon (No. 7 with $15 million) and Albert Einstein (No. 9 with $10 million).

Topping the list was the late designer Yves Saint Laurent ($350 million) and Rodgers & Hammerstein at No. 2 ($235 million). See Forbes.com http://www.forbes.com/2009/10/27/top-earning-dead-celebrities-list-dead-celebs-09-entertainment_land.html for the full run-down.

CHRIS BROWN DENIES DATING 'BAD GIRL': Singer upset with TMZ for posting story.

*Chris Brown tweeted his disgust with TMZ.com Wednesday after the gossip site suggested he was "getting pretty close" with Natalie Nunn, a contestant on the next season of Oxygen's reality series "The Bad Girls Club."

"Nunn has been out with Brown a couple times in the last few weeks -- most recently at a roller-skating party on October 16th," TMZ reported, adding that her bio for the reality series says she "enjoys cruising in her sugar daddies' expensive cars and painting the town red with her cool celebrity friends."

One of the photos featured with the story showed Nunn sitting on Brown's lap

In a posting on his Twitter page, Brown denied that he is dating Nunn, saying, "Tmz..omg.... U guys have nothing better to do. And by the way. I don't mess wit that girl."

"The Bad Girls Club" follows seven women with a number of mental, anger, personal and psychological problems – deemed "bad girls" – as they live together for four months.

SHYNE LANDS IN BELIZE AFTER DEPORTATION: Rapper taken directly from NY jail to the airport on Wednesday.

*Rapper Shyne arrived in his home country of Belize at around 2:40 p.m. local time on Thursday after being officially deported from the United States following his release from jail.

The artist, fresh from serving nine years of a 10-year bid on two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession, was escorted home by a U.S. Marshall following his deportation. He was processed by local authorities at the airport and greeted by his father Dean Barrow, Prime Minister of Belize, his mother Imeon Myvett and other members of his family, as well as fans.

After landing in Belize, Shyne's team made it clear to reporters that his name is now Moses Michael Leviy. While in jail, he officially changed it from birth name Jamal Michael Barrow to reflect his recent conversion to Judaism as well as his mother's Jewish heritage.

"Shyne is home. He wants to say how happy he is to be home and to be a free man," said the rapper's uncle, Michael Finnegan, current Minister of Housing. "He would love to have a conversation with the media, but because he was legally advised by Professor Ogletree, he must not speak to the media because he doesn't want to prejudice his situation with the US government or with the Belize government. So he asked me to ask you that he does not want to disrespect you the media, but please to understand what is going on."

Finnegan also said that Shyne has been given an entire floor at the Radisson Fort George Hotel to give him some privacy, until his place is set up at his uncle's house, which will take around two weeks.

"He needs some privacy, he needs not to be around anybody, he needs just to sit down in isolation and contemplate his life," his uncle explained. "I think that we need to respect that. If you notice, he has lost an extreme amount of weight."

Shyne still plans to fight his deportation. But, in the meantime, reports say he'll work on new music while his immigration issues are hashed out.

CHEADLE TO PLAY FBI AGENT IN NEW FILM: Principal photography just started on 'The Guard.'

*Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson of the "Harry Potter" franchise have been cast in the forthcoming John Michael McDonagh-directed drama "The Guard," due in 2010.

Gleeson stars as an unorthodox Irish policeman who joins forces with a straitlaced FBI agent, played by Cheadle, to take on an international drug-smuggling gang.

According to ComingSoon.net, Gleeson's Sergeant Gerry Boyle "is a small-town cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humor, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought Cheadle's FBI agent Wendell Everett to his door.

"However, despite the fact that Boyle seems more interested in mocking and undermining Everett than in actively working to solve the case, he finds that circumstances keep pulling him back into the thick of it. First his tiresomely enthusiastic new partner McBride disappears, then his favorite hooker attempts to blackmail him into turning a blind eye, and finally the drug-traffickers themselves try to buy him off as they have every other member of the local police force.

"These events unwittingly offend Boyle's murky moral code. He realizes that he needs to take matters into his own hands, and the only person he can trust is Everett. And so the scene is set for an explosive finale."

ANOTHER GUILTY PLEA IN PHILANT JOHNSON CASE: Brother of man who killed T.I.'s childhood friend sentenced to 10 years.

*The brother of the man who murdered rapper T.I.'s former assistant in 2006 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter, according to reports.

Padron Thomas entered a guilty plea on Wednesday to manslaughter, tampering with evidence and five counts of felonious assault in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting.

He had previously confessed to driving his brother Hosea Thomas, who fired the fatal shots into a van that was carrying Philant Johnson, fatally wounding the rapper's close friend.  T.I., who was also in the vehicle, escaped unharmed.

Padron was initially charged with murder but the counts were reduced after he testified against his brother last December. He was ordered to serve a 10-year prison sentence on Wednesday, just months after he was handed a 17-year stretch for unrelated gun and drug charges.

Hosea was sentenced to 66 years behind bars last year after he was found guilty of slaying Johnson.

SUSPECT IN CRACKER BARREL BEATING FREE ON BAIL: Ga. man accused of assaulting black mother under house arrest until trial.

*A Georgia man accused of barking racial slurs while beating an African-American female Army reservist outside a restaurant was released from jail on bail Wednesday, Clayton County, Georgia, authorities said.

Attorney Kip Jones, who represents alleged victim Tashawnea Hill, said a judge Tuesday ordered Troy Dale West Jr. placed under house arrest after he was released on a $320,000 bond. West was fitted with an ankle monitor and told to surrender his passport, have no contact with Hill and to stay out of Clayton County, where Hill lives, Jones said.

West, of Poulan, Georgia, faces one count of aggravated assault, two counts of battery, two counts of disorderly conduct, false imprisonment and cruelty to children for allegedly beating Hill outside a Cracker Barrel restaurant September 9, according to a Clayton County Court online docket.

Hill was with her 7-year-old daughter when the alleged incident took place at the entrance to the restaurant. Hill, 35, said the attack occurred after she warned West to be careful, after almost hitting her daughter with the restaurant door as she was leaving.

West, according to a police report, admitted striking Hill "after she spit on me and accused me of trying to hit her daughter with a door."

Hill denied the accusations, saying she did nothing to provoke the alleged attack. She told police that West, who is white, yelled racial slurs at her during the attack. Police said witnesses confirmed her account.

TWO CHARGED IN MURDER OF TV HOST'S PARENTS: Ruby and Milton McClendon found dead following a robbery.

*The two teens accused of slaying the parents of a Chicago-area TV host have were charged with murder on Thursday.

Gregory Brooks Jr., 18, and Reo Thompson, 17, are each charged with four counts of murder in the perpetration of a burglary and two counts of murder in the perpetration of a robbery.

The bodies of Ruby McClendon, 76, and Milton McClendon, 78 -- parents of CLTV host Garrard McClendon -- were found Oct. 19 fatally shot in a Cook County forest preserve near Calumet City. Both suffered gunshot wounds in the head.

The two teens were arrested over the weekend and had been held on charges of auto theft, robbery, burglary and confinement. They are accused of robbing the couple from Hammond, stealing their 1997 Cadillac Eldorado and returning to "finish them."

As the murder charges were announced, a Lake County judge approved a defense request for a gag order in the case.

Both were expected to appear in court on the charges this morning, prosecutors said.

Meanwhile, Garrard McClendon said Friday that he has forgiven their killers.

"Yes, my parents were murdered, but I have already forgiven the perpetrators," the CLTV host told the Chicago Tribune. "I just want them to face justice."

PUSHING THEIR BUTTONS: Store clerk fired over religious slogan.

*A retail store clerk claims he has been fired because of a religious button he wore on his uniform. Trevor Keezer said he had worn the "One nation under God" button on his Home Depot apron for more than a year at work and that has led to his dismissal.

"I was just doing what I think every American should do, just love my country," Keezer told the AP Wire. He works at a Home Depot in West Palm Beach, Florida. Earlier this month, Keezer said he began bringing a Bible to read during his lunch break at the store. That's when he says The Home Depot management told him he would have to remove the button. Keezer refused, and he was fired on Oct. 23, he said.

The company claims that expressing such personal beliefs is simply not allowed. A company manager said Keezer was offered a company-approved pin that said, "United We Stand," but he declined. Now the former employee said he plans to sue the Atlanta-based company because his religious rights were violated.

HALLOWEEN WEDDING: Church says yes to date, no to creepy theme.

*A New York church has refused a couple’s to wish have a wedding with a Halloween theme. The church, in Sleepy Hallow, NY, has been made famous by Washington Irving's short story, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Lisa Panensky and Jim Nieves signed a contract 13 months ago to get married on Halloween at the Old Dutch Church, but church officials balked at the couple's plans to wear costumes and include theme music from "The Addams Family" and "The Munsters."

Rev. Jeff Gargano said he only recently learned of the Halloween theme. He offered instead to marry them in the cemetery of the 17th-century church, but the couple said they may get married at home. The church has offered to refund their deposit.

SECRET SOCIETY SEX RING: School teacher charged with sexual assault.

*A school teacher in San Antonio, Texas is facing aggravated sexual assault of a child after police say he coerced some of his female students into having sex with him. Police there say 37-year-old Robert Louis Rosseau is being held in the Bexar County jail under a $100,000 bail.

According to the Express News, Rosseau who taught classes at the Christian Academy of San Antonio, allegedly created a "secret society" to lure teenage girls into having sex with him. Authorities said Rosseau's secret society, which included him and two of the girls, began to unravel last month, when the third teen balked at joining the group. That teen told authorities that the two girls who were members of the society, which they referred to as an "order," attempted to recruit her into the group on two weekends in September. To become a member, the two girls told the teen, she had to be "intimate" with Rosseau to establish trust, according to an arrest affidavit.

School principal Jim Bazar said none of the alleged incidents happened on school grounds and Rosseau has been terminated. Police say Rosseau could face more charges.

CHURCH SPLIT: Congregations part ways over gay issue.

*Three Presbyterian churches have finalized their divorce from the nation's largest Presbyterian denomination, citing differences over the Bible's supreme authority and the possible ordination of gays. But unlike the split within the Episcopal diocese, which turned into a bitter court fight, the three congregations are leaving on friendly terms.

"The relationships we share with these three congregations, as brothers and sisters in Christ, are more important than property," Rev. Rick Irish told the Fresno Bee. Irish is the interim leader of the Presbytery of San Joaquin, which governs Valley congregations within Presbyterian Church (USA).

The three churches will keep their church properties and have agreed to fulfill financial pledges for ministries run by the church they're leaving.

The three departing churches will take 1,900 members with them. During Sunday's service, Trinity Presbyterian congregants were given a small card bearing "The Essentials" of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. They were asked to confirm their desires to become members -- and they responded with a shout of "yes!" The church's 18 deacons and nine elders then knelt on the altar's steps and pledged to denominational representatives to carry out their roles within the new church.

EUR MOTIVATIONAL NOTE

Today’s ‘Live Better With Willie Jolley’ Tip: The Appleseed System to Success

We talked about the fact that the real you is the core, the heart and if you can tap into that core you will find answers that will empower and inspire you. Someone once said, “FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real, which our minds accept as truth and it keeps us from attempting those things that we could achieve. And FAITH is Finding Answers In The Heart, which is the core the center of our being.” That is why Oprah Winfrey always talks about getting centered and listening to our hearts to find answers.

If you examine the core of an apple, you’ll see that it is the most important part because it contains the seeds for the future. If you cut an apple in half, you can count the seeds in that apple. But you can never count the future apples that can come from those seeds if planted and nurtured! Unlimited apples can come from those seeds. What seeds for success reside inside of you? If you tap into the seeds and dreams that are at your center, in your heart, and start to live them, you will be amazed at what you will be able to achieve. Focus on your core, your heart, and live life with gusto!
