NOW AT 'EUR THIS N THAT': Spike Lee On His Career, the Industry and Yes, Tyler Perry (Video)(October 30, 2009)
*Earlier this year Sheldon Jackson Lee, affectionately known as Spike Lee, was in Detroit for the 14th Annual Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs conference and was interviewed by Ed Gordon on the film industry and his career for the "Our World" TV show. He has always been very outspoken with his ideas and opinions in race relations and politics and this time is no different. He has a body of work that is more impressive than any other black filmmaker, yet he can't get the draw of, a sayyyyyy, Tyler Perry. The question on the table remains, "What is it in Perry's formula that is different than Spike's?" Gordon put it out there that the imagery African Americans are flocking to see, Tyler Perry's, is not in any way reflective of let's sayyyyyyyyyyyyy a Spike Lee. Spike's take on the image of Black America on film is a "complex subject," said Lee. He told Gordon that everyone should be able to express themselves however they want, but while we can do better than what we're doing with image, the people are who make or break our image. And yes, these are the comments that infuriated Tyler Perry on last weekend's "60 Minutes" program. You might wanna click over and watch the full interview for yourself. As usual, Spike is always good for giving you something to think about. But some will still wonder if he's just plain jealous of Perry's success. PLUS: Secretary's Mistake Costs Pepsi $1.26 Billion ... And She Still Has Job! *PepsiCo lost big in court recently all because they simply did not show up. But, they didn't show because they didn't know there was a lawsuit pending. Two men, Charles Joyce and James Voigt won the $1.26 billion judgment in September claiming they gave the company the idea in 1981 to sell bottled purified water. The culprit: Kathy Henry. PepsiCo is in hot water because she was too busy preparing for a meeting to open the notice slowly and say, "Hey! Hey! Heeeeeeyyyyyy! You are being sued for billions of dollars!" Oh well, at least she still has her job. Why, we don't know. Click over to find out more, here.
